Picked up another Nikkor on Sunday. 35/2 Nikkor-OC for $55. Same shop. Again, on the hunt for a junker AI'd copy to pilfer the ring from.

Wound up exchanging the 105 for a minty 85/1.8 HC. Also have a 135/2.8 Nikkor-QC with AI ring headed here from KEH. Got that one for $21.95 shipped.

Some 2mmX2mm strips and a sheet of 1mm of self-adhesive foam for the door hinge to replace the light seals in my recently acquired Canon F1n, the camera is in absolutely mint condition much better than I expected and incredible for a forty-year-old camera, but the light seals are a gooey mess.

Man Ray: Unconcerned But Not Indifferent (9788496466807)
Found a pristine copy in a charity shop but they wanted £20 for it (good value even so but more than I can afford)
Went home, googled a bit, found a brand new copy for about half that. On it's way now.

I just bought a 210/9 Repro-Claron. I'm not sure why I did except that the price was right and the cells will go into a #0 and Repro-Clarons have a very good reputation. I already have too many 210s, including a 210/6.8 Beryl that's in shutter.
Update. It arrived today. The catalog notwithstanding, the cells won't go into a #0. They're in a very fat barrel. So much for information in catalogs. I have other lenses in barrel that don't conform to catalogs' assertions that the cells will go into shutters.

Well, they might go in to a shutter, but only after being adapted by a machinist. Which of course isn't what saying "they go into a shutter" implies.

Interesting idea, but having had the cells out of their barrel I'm not sure it will work. The big snag is that the individual cells are in flanged discs so large that they won't fit an Ilex #3. I doubt that cutting them down is feasible, have no idea how much threaded bushings that will fit a larger shutter, accept the cells in their discs and give the right cell spacing will cost. And then there's the cost of the larger shutter. There are less expensive ways to get a 210 mm dialyte type process lens in shutter if I must have one.

Front-mounting the thing in a cup-shaped adapter would cost less.

I was hoping for a cheap thrill. Oh, well.

I didn't say it was a reasonable or practical solution :D It's probably something SK Grimes could solve for you at the cost of a new Copal 3 shutter and five or six hundred dollars. At which point, as you mentioned, there are much better ways to get a 210mm dialyte in shutter than to adapt this one. Probably easiest and cheapest if you want to at least try it out to front-mount a Packard shutter.

One of the things I really love about APUG is regulars' eagerness to tell posters how to spend money they don't have. As I used to tell my parents when I was away in college, send money.

What good is an unreasonable or impractical solution to a problem?

It is illustrative and educative - helps people understand where some ideas might take them.
Probably good to accompany it with the warning though.

I found a nice Kodak 3A, Model B4 Folding Pocket camera with an original wooden spool. Dang, now I have to see if V122 is still on the Iilford ULF order list!

Fair comment.

Did you know that I have bought lenses in barrel and made the usable? Some have cells that are direct fits in shutters. I've had adapters made to hang some of then in front of shutters, and one adapter to hang a Compound #5 in front of a large lens. I've put a few that aren't really suitable for front mounting on, sometimes entirely in front of, Graphic boards, used them on a Speed Graphic. I've not used Packard or Sinar shutters but I'm well aware of them. Same goes for Luc shutters, wooden boxes that hold roller blind shutters and roller blind shutters extracted from Mentor Panorama cameras.

I keep hoping that someone will show me a new way of making a lens in barrel usable. So far no such luck and I've pretty much given up hope. That I know all the ways seems improbable but ...

Most lenses in barrel are snares for the unwary. Unfortunately my pretty little 210 ReproClaron got me.

I am with TheFlyingCamera on this. We lay out an array of possible solutions and the OP can make his or her choices as an adult.

I wasn't telling you how to spend money. As I mentioned, it's not a practical solution, especially given the nature of the lens. I know people who have done such things because they have some rather esoteric piece of glass in a barrel that they want to use, and for whatever reason they're opposed to using Packard shutters/hats/roller-blinds/etc. I'm one of the lucky ones who got a 240 Apo-Germinar from Kerry Thalmann when he had them, and it is indeed a direct fit into a Copal 1, so all I had to do was get Grimes to make an aperture scale for it, then screw in the elements.
