Ooo! You really do have GAS. Don't feel bad you aren't the only one.I did stupid this month. I bought a Fuji GF670, a Fuji GSW690III, and a Canon TS-E 24mm II. Now if I could only afford film...
A Canon T80 with zoom lens, picking it up tomorrow. Beauty & the Beast
What to do, what to do...
Is that one of the lenses with the tumor on the side?
Okay, I just got even stupider. I found myself a nearly mint condition F4s. I wanted it. I said No. I closed the browser and went to bed. I got back up again and bought the damn thing. Only problem is I don't have any Nikon lenses. What to do, what to do...
Tell me about this camera. It makes four exposures per roll, right? How's the quality? I'm really curious about it.
Wow, how time flies, my apologies for such a slow reply. Yes 4 exposures per roll. The camera quality is very good, with cnc machining of the body components and high quality hardware. It is a hard to wind, but manageable. The winding are nicely made but could be a little larger in diameter. Film takes a little practice to load and is best done in dim light. Because of the length of the image you have to unwind a lot of the backing paper to get to the take up spool. I did have some fogging on the first frame on my first two rolls. It's also tricky to feed the backing paper through the film path but I manage even with my beat up carpenters fingers. I did just add a pair of forceps to the kit, which should help. The shutter(s) work well and have magnets to keep them from opening accidentally.
The image quality is also good although I've had a few inconsistent results. A couple rolls have been a little softer on the outer portions of the frame (left and right sides). Not sure what's going on, camera movement maybe or maybe the long expired film from unknown sources that I've been using. Just shot a roll of TMY expiration 2018 and it quite good, pretty consistent "softness" throughout the frame. I don't have a scanner but will attach a quick and dirty iPhone image to give you an idea.
Still try to get my head around the 6x17 format and the curved film plane. After shooting 35mm, 6x6, 4x5, WP, and 8x10 this is take a little time. The camera also has a very wide field of view, 140° IIRC, which is interesting. Overall I'm quite pleased with the camera and am having a great time shooting with it. My biggest problem is how to print the images. I currently us a public darkroom that only goes up to 4x5. Could rent time at another darkroom that goes up to 8x10 but at $15/hr that adds up quickly. I do have a 5x7 enlarger so maybe I'll finally get of my butt and build a darkroom.
