About three weeks ago, I bought a Linhof Technika 23 with a Xenotar 105mm ƒ2.8 lens, some 6.5x9 sheet film holders, and a 54x72 Super Rollex roll film back. Unfortunately, the roll film back, while it works fine, is kind of useless because with it in place, it is quite difficult to see through the viewfinder. So I've decided to shoot with the sheet film holders. Unfortunately that size sheet film seems only to be made with blue sensitive electron microscope film.
I got a roller cutter for cutting down larger sheet film to the smaller format. Along with that I ordered a box of cotton gloves for handling the film, a spool for developing that size sheets in a Patterson tank, printfile sleeves and besfile binder to store the negatives.
While I was at it, I wanted to fill the camera out with a wide and tele. The wide was a Super-Angulon, 65mm ƒ8, and the tele was a Tele-Arton 180mm, ƒ4. Then I had to get lens boards too.
So, one $450 spur of the moment purchase (camera and 105mm lens), snowballed into a whole $1100 project, that is still possibly going to expand to cost me more money (as I eye 2.25x3.25 film holders, instax mini film, and an instax camera to shoot instax on this camera, and the junker camera to develop it.)
I don't think I need any more cameras, but I do get tempted by the build quality and solidity of the Linhof cameras, compared to my slightly wobbly 4x5 Shen-Hao, which is making me consider a 4x5 Technika to replace it.
