I ordered a new laptop. My windows 7, 8 year old beast just too slow. I need to buy a separate hard drive to backup stuff. Computers are a major pain. Nothing more elegant than black and white film for storing ikages.

I am shooting film for that reason. I already work on a computer, I don’t want my hobby to have anything with it.

I feel your pain. Down one hard drive on RAID system. Need to address this. I've backed up the raid (phew!), but now need to rebuild the raid.

Basically, I bought the raid a number of years ago to preserve digital photographs. My realization some years ago that there is no satisfactory way for me to preserve digital photographs led in part to my return to film photography.

You are exactly correct. The big movie studios store the most important work as color separation negatives on polyester base black and white film in old salt mines. You can't trust solid state memory, hard drives are problematic.
I think Kodak should offer digital to film services. Make it cheap so people would do it. I would FedEx a memory card to EK and have a thousand TMX, Ektachrome, or Portra frames returned on a 250 foot reel. If people want to pay more put the frames in negafiles. It will never happen, makes too much sense.

Sounds like a great idea! I guess the studios do this work now. Maybe the information density of film isn't high enough to just archive all sorts of digital info (not just pics).

I am also shoeboxing (yes, a new verb) digital pics that might have some appeal to my kids/grandkids decades from now by printing them out (5x70) on a Canon printer. The quality is good and I will probably not do anything with except stick them in a box. They might fade some, but ...

Darn good idea. Kept dry and dark probably last for decades.

Some ammonium ferric oxalate, for continued experiments with ferric-gelatin processes.
I'm also curious to see if a mixture of afc+afo will allow platinum toning of papier sepia.

A couple small amber bottles for storage after opening a new bottle of HC-110.

This thread has become longer than the dreaded Kodachrome has been deleted thread.
Aahhh, memories- ISTR one or two others that went on for all eternity as well.

Today, I received the HK-5 lens hood. These are relatively scarce stand-alone. From a dealer in England on Etsy.

Liked the AA book by Nancy Newhall so much that I have ordered (and read) a book about Aubrey Bodine and have bought (and received) two books by Andreaus Feninger (maybe misspelled his name), one on photographic lighting and the other on composition. I am reading about things that I think I already know, but have found that I continue to learn new things.. Maybe I should reread my "New Ansel Adams Photography Series, Books 1,2, and 3". I may find out that I don't know as much about "The Zone System" as I think I know.........Regards!

Are we thinking of the High Street in the same big city? Anyway, there is hardly a place in Germany where one cannot reach by bike a drugstore that offers type 135 film.

Indeed, I was pleasantly suprised this summer finding APX100-135 36EXP at the DM-drugstores all over the Brandenburg area.
And for under 5 euro per roll too!

Last Thursday, I went to Boots in the St Enoch shopping centre, Glasgow, and the local film shooters had nearly cleaned the place out of film (luckily there was still some Fujicolour Superia 400)! I've seen HP5+ in 120 format there before, but then you'd hope that a city with a renowned art school and large artistic community would have somewhere to buy film.

A 24exp of Kodacolor Gold 100 Plus that I found at a flea market for .99cents. The box says “Victoria 94 - Official Sponsor”
