an Argus I bought while in the Navy at the ships store I sold it to buy a Nikon when I got out. Wish I still had it

Argus made an SLR? I'll be damned, they did -- well, at least sold an SLR with their own proprietary lens mount...
Here it is. It's with M42 screw mount as many SLR of that time.

Minolta SR7, then a Minolta SRT101, SRT202, SRT301, X700 and finally Minolta X700 before I whiched Nikon AF srl with a N75 and F100.

MF: Hasselblad 500CM
35mm: Leica R5

Both still doing ok, although CLA is the magic word.

Praktica FX3, maybe in 1962. Of course it was my first SLR. Did anyone who had used any other SLR ever then buy a Praktica FX3? At least plenty of M42 lenses were available. After wrestling with that camera's peculiarities, I did manage to get good enough pictures. The Praktica system was briefly followed by a Miranda, which was less durable than the Praktica. Then came Nikon, which I'm still using in digital versions. Almost any camera in good working condition and with a good lens is capable of producing good photographs. It is usually worthwhile to get a camera that is also reasonably convenient and reliable.

A Contaflex I had on extended loan in 1959 and 1960. It belonged to a friend who couldn't get on with its not having an instant return mirror. I don't know the model. I don't even know if it had interchangeable lenses. I never tried removing the normal lens it had when I received it. I returned it when we graduated from high school two years later. I shot Anscochrome slide film with it almost exclusively. Sadly the slides have deteriorated so badly that I can not recover the images even with some heavy handed work with Affinity Photo.

A 1957 Exakta Varex IIa, back in early 80s. From 1984 on, an additional 1954 Exakta Varex VX. For I always loved to use a black-and-white film and a Kodachrome 25.

Recently they were CLA'd, I still use them from time to time and I love them 👍 .

My first SLR was a brand new Minolta SRT-101 with 58mm 1.4 which I used in high school.
Stripped-out the plastic advance gear twice before a repairer exchanged it for brass. I still have the camera and lens 52-years later.

My first SLR was a Pentax MZ-50 with the 35-80 kit lens, that I bought brand new when I was 16 with the money I earned in a small summer job. Before that I had been messing around with my father's FED 4, but it was the Pentax that really brought me into photography.
