- had his own blog website
- ca in his 60s
- URL was not his name
- I found him via links from other photo website, so not a "nobody"
- largely "street" style
- Came from another profession (lawyer and/or academic)
- based in U.S. - maybe NYC?
- also wrote about his motorcycles and clashes with local police about speed limits
- had some beef with Shutterbug
- was quite ill and eventually died (1,2,3 years ago), IIRC from pancreatic cancer
- invited friends to meet him a final time, with some classic rock and rum(??) at bedside
- had a self-portrait in bathtub on his page (already ill, skinny, bald)
- good sense of humour, laconic writing style
- wife put up list of equipment for sale (largely Nikons?)

His motorcycles were Japanese (?) but definitely not Harley. He had several and then downsized his fleet.

He seemed to have some bones to pick with Shutterbug and/or the boss of it.

After his death his wife put up a list of equipment and prints for sale, on said website.

I think you mean Tim Vanderweert who blogged at https://leicaphilia.com/ and was from North Carolina, I think.
The portrait in his hospital bed at https://leicaphilia.com/thanksgiving-2022/
(Perhaps a nod to David Wojnarowicz's photo of Peter Hujar, or maybe photographs of people in hospital beds all have a similarity, contra Tolstoy.)
Bathtub photo perhaps from https://leicaphilia.com/digital-tri-x-the-holy-grail/
I don't recall the motorcycle stuff, but I didn't read the blog regularly - IMO his photography was more interesting than the writing about gear or internet beefs.

So great! Thank you - I remembered a monosyllabic first name but had a different kind of surname in mind.
Well done!

Thanks for also bringing this photographer to my attention. I enjoyed the work.

Re-reading his blog I am happy to say that I learned a lot about life in general.
