It's a sleeper for sure. I recognized the true value of mine a long time after I bought it. From what I understand they were common in camera shops in the 70s and 80s, that may be when your dad picked it up.

This is one of those threads that doesn't quite fit in any of the categories, but it didn't seem to fit in particular in its previous place ("Miscellaneous Equipment"). Since we have a category that revolves about user initiatives and sharing work, I thought the present place would be the most suitable (or, rather 'least unsuitable') place.

If you want to discuss this further, that's OK, but let's do so in a separate conversation so the thread itself can go back to what it's about.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks and love it. I had a 4x5 Wista DX, 120mm & 210mm lenses back in the 80s - 2000s. I sold it thinking I would go digital. I used the money to buy telescopes. Still have the scopes. Really wanted to get back into 4x5, so far so good.

My other 4x5 cameras are Calumet CC400 and a Wista SP. Love the Calumet for its movements. Wista SP is heavier than the Tachihara but more rigid so thats the one I go for when I go out on windy days for example.

Tri-X in a 5x7 a few days ago -- walking around in the redwoods to the south with a couple friends (they had 8x10s). I probably should get to the 6 sheets this evening and see what I got. After tramping about under the redwoods for a long while, I came back to the van and exposed a few sheets of a scene below (iPhone image) -- I had thought it was just too easy when we arrived (the old 'sitting duck'). My behind was hanging over the small paved road through here, but the few cars could heard long before arriving.

5x7, 180mm/5.6, Tri-X at 320 ASA. At f32 at 8 seconds, so the water will be blurred and some movement in some of the ferns. I exposed two sheet as verticals, then moved the camera a little to the left and exposed a horizontal. The horizontal image had sunlight on the leaves in the far back which should give a little sparkle. We'll see!

PS...I will probably use Ilford Universal PQ Developer at 1:10 (or 1:12 - still thinking on it) for ~ 10 minutes at 72F in a Jobo 3006 on a motor base. Print in Pt/pd or carbon...leaning towards pt/pd for the vertical and carbon for the horizontal.

Double-X (FFP's version) in my Nikkormat FTN, developed in D-76 1:1 (FPP's version).

I'm working on a then-and-now project of Beacon, NY today vs. a 1982 photo essay, shooting the same locales. I'm using classic prime pre-AI lenses like the 28/3.5, 45 GN, and 105/2.5... Here are some quick and dirty 1200dpi negative scans - any images eventually used in the exhibit will have their negs professionally scanned at higher resolution than my scanner supports.



I'm also shooting these subjects on Tri-X with my OM-2 and a similar selection of primes - to get a bit different look. But I developed a Double-X roll last.

Nice project! Then-and-nows are always interesting. Double-X and Tri-X are both favorites of mine.

My next develop will be a roll of Shanghai GP3 220 and Ilford FP4+ 35mm together in Flic Film Black/White & Green developer for 13 minutes. I found these films to have a parallel developing time. It will be my first time trying this developer with either of them.

Good examples from the Pentax 7 darko. Haven't seen many since that half-frame came out. The building shot is superb, nice and wide angle.

Hand-rolled three of these Svema 32, it's held up pretty well over the decades. I develop it in HC-110. By the date it seems to have been made the year the USSR fell. Ready to shoot 35mm cassettes apparently weren't a thing there.

1971122 Verichrome exposed and developed 2 weeks ago in Ilford DDX 1:4 8mins 27C ambient room temp. Film very noticeably fogged but scanned beautifully. Camera: well kept Kodak 3A Autographic with Kodak Anastigmat 4 element lens.

Also working my way through a 220 roll, also 42L. RB67, 90mm f/3.8, at ISO 1000

Kodak Monitor 620, a bunch of expired film: a roll of Kodak 320TXP, Panatomic-X, Ektar 25, 2 rolls of Ektachrome E100G, a roll of Fujichrome Velvia 50, and 2 rolls of Fujicolor Reala 100

Sent to Royal We film lab, the rolls of 320TXP & Panatomic X are being dev'ed in HC110

PS: I do re-re-roll the film back onto 120 spools before I send them out to a lab to get dev'ed
