Let's say that you bring your 6X6 camera on a family vacation, and you come home and you want to print the pictures for your personal photo albums. What size do you ask the lab to print? Have you found archival plastic folders or albums that are made specifically for square formats?

The color negatives are printed 5" square. The black & white negatives are printed 8" square for the first prints. Some may be printed larger later.

You forgot the second part of my question

5" and 8" square prints could fit in photo albums, but I prefer to enlarge and frame the best ones. Sometimes I use Plak-It [http://www.plak-it.com/] for up to 12" square prints, otherwise I mat and frame them.

I usually print them on 5 by 7 or 8 by 10 paper. The larger prints fit nicely in sheet protectors that go into binders.

Or I just take the prints to folks and say " here!" and they're stuck with it.

Mostly, though, I go through the mass of negs, pick out a few really good ones and make exhibition prints 11 by 14 or so.

So do I! Usually printing 8x8 or 11x11. I´d like to print larger, but my enlarger, easel and trays do only allow for 11x11 so far.

Since most of my snapshots are from 35mm, my albums are all for 4x6 prints, so I have everything printed to that size. The places out here basically just crop the photo to cover 4x6, or fit it the frame on the paper (leaving a couple bands of space).

When I start printing my own, I will still do 4x6, but may trim the paper square, and just put it in the 4x6 sleeve of my albums. I basically print (have printed) every frame with an identifiable image, even if it's blurred, has horrible exposure errors, or is otherwise messed up. Everything goes in.

This is only for the albums, though. A nice photo that I wanted for presentation would be enlarged to 5x7 or greater, and perhaps cropped for composition.

Generally print my 6X6 photos for gifts and 12"X12". Mostly grandkids.

My 6"X9" format photos generally printed 12"X18". Mostly scenic a with some grandkids environmental subjects.

My 6X17 format photos are generally printed very large. Mostly scenic a.

I have found archival storage sheets on line for 6X6 but generally mount anything I print.

I use photo corners to hold prints to paper. Or I make a backing that shows just slightly around the print and glue them both to the paper. Check scrapbooking sections of craft stores for examples and for pages. I haven't seen anything with plastic pockets that are square, but I avoid that kind anyway.

I get 8'' square books done at Artifact Uprising so I can do the layout as I please. For the ones I want to print to go in a frame/wall I have access to a pro Epson printer so can print anything up to A2 but so far I've got stuff made up to 10'' square. I don't do albums with pockets/sleeves/glued photos.

I scan and then get Costco to print 8x8 or 11x14 with extra white space and ask them to trim to 11x11 for me. Then I file them in Itoya Art portfolio books which come in 9x12 and 11x14 sizes.

When I get 6X6 color negative film processed and scanned I have 6X6" prints made. Enlargements may be cropped but without cropping I have 8X8" and 10X10" prints made. If I know ahead of time that I will want an 8X10 I will shoot 6X7 instead and possibly 6X4.5.

Yes, only if the composition is good. If the composition is lousy, then the Costco print will be lousy. Actually the do make good prints.

I make the print in the standard size that paper comes in, usually 5x7, 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 20x24. I only cut to make 4x5 or 3.5x5. I crop the negative as needed, so another words, I don't make to much of an issue to improve the original negative image by selective cropping of the negative.

I do it in two sizes 16x16 cm in 20x25 cm (8"x10") paper and 20x20 cm in 24.5x30 cm (9.5"x12") paper. Something like this:
