OP never came back to answer the questions, "WHAT do you need the software to DO, of the above list?!", both 5 days after OP and again SIX MONTHS later. Troll warning.which part of Photoshop? Photoshop does all of these things, and other programs may do some but no others.
- Pixel level JPG/TIFF photo editor
- Pixel level graphic arts editor
- Sophsticated RAW conversion (via Adobe Camera RAW or ACR)
- Digital Asset Management (photo database, via Adobe Bridge) ...note: Lightroom is slightly more complex than Bridge. ... Unlike Bridge, Lightroom has internal editing software. You can select images and make global edits on one image as well as batch editing. You can also create catalogues within Lightroom with images and files of your choice with different tags, keywords, and ratings.M

Maybe not a troll, but apparently has insufficient interest in interacting with any of those who responded to the initial question. He hasn't posted on Photrio at all in six months. He only has 27 posts, all seem friendly. I don't think he's a troll.

I posted #75. What's wrong with it? Some secret rules here I'm not aware of?
No, not at all.
Warden commented that the Original Poster (OP) has not been on Photrio in six months and I said my response was to YOU, not the OP.
This is why you should start a NEW thread when you ask a question. It avoids confusion because people start mixing up who is responding to whom...
Yeah, I have to stop trying to help people who seemingly ask for help; it simply isn't worth the effort.

a work-around could be to open the files in Preview and output from there as tiff or jpg, which can be opened with PS.Am going to start looking for something else. There was an issue with latest update 23 where I couldn't open TIF files any more. They are still working on a fix but for my files (which were made by a vendor for work) with Capture One 9 Mac, none could be opened because they were "not the right type of document." Had to go back to v. 22.5.1 to open the files. There is a workaround for 23 but IDK if they've fixed it, just went back to 22.5.1.
Exactly!I've been with Photoshop since the 90's and have never found anything that can match it.
Lightroom is much easier to replace, but since you can have both and Adobe RAW for $10 a month I see little point in doing anything else.
Photoshop has no real competitor IMO.
Edit: For strict photo editing maybe Exposure 6 could be of interest.
I tried it and found nothing really wrong with it but just too used to Adobe's solutions at this stage to seriously switch.

Nah, skilled photoshop work has by and large replaced darkroomsWhat replaces PS? Skilled darkroom work
... but it really is an irritating interface. I've used some horrible UI's over the years... Blender, I'm actually somewhat competent with.
But GIMP makes my teeth itch.
