I really want one of his books, but they are way out of my price range. I just hope one day some of my experimental stuff will get noticed.

Robert Frank....The Americans exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Go the site and look at a few of the images which are redolent of those made by Bresson and some of the WPA photographers.

If you are interested in the history of the American Apollo space program or like me grew up during that time here is an extensive photographic archive:

What is really cool is if you go to the section Full Hasselblad Magazines, those are all the shots from entire rolls of film, not just a few that were reproduced for publication.

So congratulations are finally in order then Gavin :D for holiday read honeymoon

I had planned to be in Istanbul for a few hours this coming Wednesday but put it off in favour of a much longer trip in a month or so to meet up with he growing APUG tribe who live there.

I've seen Ara Guler's work online, my wife first told me about his images, where's the exhibition ?

Ian

Hello Ian,

Have been looking at some of his photos in Cafe Ara in Istanbul - nice cafe if you're in the area. The wall is decorated with enlarged display prints rather than photographic prints though.

For a more accurate look at his work, Thames and Hudson are publishing a selection of his b+w photos this month, in a new book with an essay by Orhan Pamuk. I first saw some of Guler's photos in Pamuk's memoir, published a few years ago.

Cheers,
Gavin

I've just discovered the extraordinary work of Josef Sudek, and purchased three monographs of it. Where have I been all this time?

From John Voss: "I've just discovered the extraordinary work of Josef Sudek, and purchased three monographs of it. Where have I been all this time?"

I will second this. Rare work that partially answers why we're so into this medium and its culture.

Recently picked up a couple of books by Wolfgang Tillers, and Anders Petersen's "Cafe Lehmitz".
