3) barry thornton www.barrythornton.com although I dont i find his pictures overly exciting, i admire him for his technical expertise and the amazing ability to share without sounding overtechnical or confusing - sad that this wont happen anymore.
4) Gordon Stettinius www.eyecaramba.com for his incredible toy-eye

Although I do not shoot portraits, and this photographer has never 'influenced' my photography, I have always admired the portrait work of Yousuf Karsh.

His most famous is probably his wartime portrait of a defiant Winston Churchill.

Eugene Atget - Just because he knew exactly where to place his tripod.
Edward Weston - Simultaneous simplicity and complexity in his composition.
Walker Evane - The FSA Walker Evans because of his ability to capture the sense of place.

Inspiration hmmmmmm.In many ways I've been inspired in one way or another by every photograpgh that I've ever seen and that has touched me in some way.

I know, hollywood portraits are full of lighting taboos for the classic way of thinking, but these guys had chops! (not to mention great gigs). It was the work of these guys (and others of the era) that inspired me to move from medium to large format format for portraiture.

The results so far are great, I've really enjoyed seeing all these new websites and the work of photographers I didn't even know about. I'm curious about some of the choices of our friends from downunder (Australia, New Zealand) would make.

When I think about still lifes, no one beats Paul Caponigro. His work is by far some of the most amazing I have ever seen.

For landscape work? I am still thinking.

Dorothy Lange, Gordon Parks & especially Clyde Butcher who enabled me to realize that there's more to Florida than flowers & pretty sunsets.
