I am absolutely in awe of "Lives in Photography", a retrospective on Edward Steichen. In my mind, the greatest photographer who ever was and ever will be.

Last week I ordered The Negative, The Print and The Camera. They arrived a few days ago so I gave them to my wife to wrap up and give back to me.

Actually, only The Camera and The Negative arrived. I have received a message which says that The Print will be delivered in January.

Oh well, I need to master the camera and making negatives before I need to worry about making prints!

Have these three ever been combined into one book?

Unsure about the omnibus but for me 'The Negative' is where the action is at

Michael Kenna

Michael Kenna. His books seem to go quickly and also jump in price. I finally ordered his "20 yr retrospective" for Christmas present to myself; but would have loved to get/afford one of his books on Japan.

Don't think you can get The Decisive Moment from inter-library loan..

Is it still printed? Didn't see it on my area's library system nor available from amazon.

It's listed in WorldCat so it should be available. Of course when I went to one of the libraries to get it they found that it was missing. Probably ended up on eBay.

my #1

Ansel Adams: Taos Pueblo(original 1930 printing on Charcoal Black) signed of course

#2

Hiroshi Sugimoto: Architecture(2003 printing) also signed.

alas, these fine editions will only meet my christmas wishes when I purchase them. Unless some gracious soul is willing to bestow one upon me in an extremely generous manner, of which I will be utmost grateful!

this year, however, I don't have anything on my christmas list. the books listed above are just a number of books I would like to own, to be able to enjoy and share with fellow photographers who appreciate these artists' work. this year, I'm more interested in giving than receiving. God's blessed me with so much, and I haven't done anything for anyone else.

but I doesn't hurt to appreciate fine collectibles such as these two books, does it

blessings to all of you this christmas,

-Dan

If you like color and can find a copy of ALL UNDER HEAVEN: THE CHINESE WORLD by Eliot Porter and his son Jonathan Porter my 1st edition copy is dated 1983 Pantheon Books. That's what it's all about straight forward perfection no gimicks.

There's new book about Ansel Adams AND Georgia O'Keeffe. Iwannit!

Thanks for the idea Chris. Amazon says the Frederick Evans book to accompany the Getty exhibit in February that I wanted hasn't been released yet even though it was supposed to come out Nov. 28th. It is on order and will hopefully be a Valentine's Day present. My wife (a painter and O'Keeffe fan) and I switched to plan C for Chris, went to Borders this afternoon and bought the book you suggested. Now we have a book we will both like and another to come. Thank you.

My copy of The Print is being held hostage by Amazon until January as well. The three books were simplified and combined into two books in the The Ansel Adams Guide: Basic Techniques of Photography series. But really, why buy two books when you can buy three?

Vacillating between Primitive Photography: A Guide to Making Cameras, Lenses, and Calotypes and The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes, as my next purchase (funded by a gift certificate to BN.com from my boss).
