What Lenses cover 20x24?

Well guys, I am getting my 12x20 within the next couple of weeks. One fo the good things is that I will be able to adapt it to other formats, and I am thinking 20x24 would be great, but I have no idea which lenses cover 20x24. Well I know the new Schnider lenses cover it, but I dont want to sell my house to buy them....I sort of like sleeping under a roof.... Any recommendations?

Thanks Dave, but minimum image circle for 20x24 is 793.5 mm this is why I am stumped.

Doesn't Wisner have a list of these lenses on his site? Also check the LF forum. I think Tracy Storer has posted a list at some point. In any case, he's the one who would know.

320mm Protar V. 450mm Nikon f9/soft corners. 600mm Fuji. There were a couple of 320mm protars on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. One for $360-, one for over $1500- I should have bid on the less expensive one...20x24...sounds great! I've been thinking of converting my Century studio 11x14 to 20x24 for awhile now. Hi Jorge,

I have a 20 x 24 on order for the intended use of wet plate collodion and palladium printing. I have purchased the 760 Nikor process lens that Dave mentioned as well as a 30 inch Dallmeyer antastigmat lens that covers. Have no idea as to the real life performance of either one of these yet but have been assured that they will cover. When the camera gets in/holders etc and I get over the shock of it all I'll try to update their performance. Good luck.

Keep in mind, Jorge, that there are several lenses that could be used with a smaller image circle if focused at hyper-focal lengths.

I use my 210xl on 1220 with focused to 7' and f/64 I get infinity.

Uh oh! Just checked the price for 20x24 sheet film. $350 per 25 sheet box. That is about $14 per shot.....I wonder if they make a digital back for this...

320mm Protar V will cover, but very soft corners. Same thing with 450mm Nikkor-M, but slightly better performance on the corners. 600mm Fujinon-C covers just a tad better than the 450mm Nikkor-M.

If you don't need wide angle coverage many/most of the process lenses over about 30" will give very good performance. I have a 30" Red Dot Artar that just dazzles on this format, all over the field, and is close to *normal* focal length. But for contact printing any of the process lenses over 30" should give outstanding results.

If you do need wide angle, the best bet would be 16.5" and 19" Dagors, or for that matter any of the old symmetrical lenses of these focal lengths.

I bought the 30" Red Dot Artar in barrel and had S.K. Grimes install it in a Copal #3.

The 30" RDA is a great lens, not only for 20X24", but also for smaller ULF formats such as 12X20, 8X20 and 7X17, assuming you have enough bellows draw.

In terms of size, the 30" RDA is just slightly larger than the 600mm Fujinon-C.
