I am conducting a survey to crowd-source people’s preferred film and developer combination when making negatives for platinum/palladium printing. I plan to publish the consolidated responses on my website and as part of a book project.

If you're interested in taking part then there's more information here: https://ianleake.com/film-and-developer-combinations/

Thanks in advance,
Ian

It would also be useful to report the target CI for each film/developer combination, and maybe the light source, too.

Yes, this would be interesting. But at the moment I'm trying to better understand the range of working practices out there, and I want the survey to be really quick to complete, so I've only put in the basics. Perhaps a more detailed analysis in the future.

Understood. My 2 cents: without knowing the negative densities, we can't evaluate the film/developer combinations relative to our own workflows.

Yes, this is true. But most probably anyone who knows what a CI is, will want to test their materials and process anyway. People who are new to film are always going to struggle with testing. For them it's much better to say: "Here's a range that will get you into the right ballpark to make a reasonable print.

Ian,

I entered my info for making pt/pd prints from analog negatives, but I also make quite a few of these prints from digital negatives. Are you only interested in a fully analog workflow?

@Ian Leake

I know this is an old thread- but I was wondering if the results of this survery ever got published anywhere. I didn't see it at the link on your site. I found this thread searching this very question and would love to hear others answers.

Thanks!

Yes, I published the results on my website and in my book. The website version got lost during one of my site migrations. I've attached the relevant page that shows the results.

Not shown in the table is my own process because that's covered elsewhere in the book. Over the years I've used Ilford HP5+, Ilford FP4+ and Adox CHS 100 II, developed in Rodinal, Pyrocat-HD, WD2H+ and 510 Pyro. There are pros and cons to each, but my long-time favourite developer is John Wimberley's WD2H+.
