Roteague - here's one "near" you...South Point, Big Island...simply incredible...

I was pretty close to there last year; shooting at the black sand beaches near Kea'au.

Andris Apse does do some beautiful photography.
Ha ha - nice! Actually, with the frequency that trains go along there, you'll have time to set up the camera a few times on the way too.

I imagine that it will take several days to walk the route, since it is 150km in length. http://www.centralotagorailtrail.co.nz/

I had heard that the Southerner stopped running a couple of years ago. I rode in from Christ Church to Balclutha; simply a fantastic ride. My friend was living there at the time. She took me on the Taieri River Gorge railway, which I took some pictures from. Also, I was able to photograph the Kingston Flyer. as it pulled into the station.

Right now I love the north end of the Great Salt Lake. We are in the sixth year of a drought and the lake is at near record low. The north end is crusted in several inches of salt and the water is pink with algae. Right now it is a unique landscape and worth the trip but I suggest a good 4x4 like a jeep or truck, an all wheel drive car will realy take a beating. Photographers are coming from arround the world to shoot it because a few good winters and the lake will rise to its old level.

Cycling the Otago Rail Trail

Hi,

I have cycled the Otago Rail Trail a couple of times and every time it was an awesome experience. very beautiful scenery. www.otagorailtrail.co.nz has a complete guide to the Otago Central Rail Trail, South Island, New Zealand.

Of the places I have traveled to and would want to go back to because I found them so beautiful, I would place the Canadian Rockies and the Grand Canyon high on the list. The place I wold love to explore more would be the countryside of Mexico north of Mexico City. The place I want to go to where I have not been is Paris, Bordeaux and Tuscany.

My favourite location is the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I go there several times a year, and I never fail to be inspired by that beautiful island.

Scotland!!
And I would like to visit Iceland one day!

I haven't been anywhere with a camera but out my front door. I've only been to three of the refuge units and a nearby state park but of those four locations Louisville Swamp is my favorite place to shoot. There is prairie, swamp, forest, river, a creek, rock out-croppings, murky ponds, birds - including raptors and waterfowl, insects, amphibians, small animals, flowers everywhere, there are a couple historic buildings - it's 13+ miles of ever changing photographic opportunities.

location

-mt rainier...is closest to me, so more convenient to visit and one best to go because its never the same every time i go shoot.
-westport or long beach...love those beach and light house shots when i get them in.
-victoria...beautiful city, great architecture and buchart gardens

The Dead Link Removed near Århus, Denmark.

Beautiful forest with a lot of different trees, an animal park and lots of lakes, streams and small hills. Lovely light, too.

Furthermore Dead Link Removed is a great place.

The Franciscan Monastery in Washington, DC. Grotto, gardens, church. I never know exactly which of these sections will yield an image, but one of them always does, every time I go back there.

In the UK, my favorite locations were in the Midlands. The Peak District National Park has many beautiful villages and vistas. My two favorite specific locations are the village of Castleton and the old stone circle of Arbor Low. Both are well worth a visit if you're in the area.

In New England, Acadia National Park and the surrounding area are beautiful, as well as the mountains in Vermont and New Hampshire. In fact, I was quite taken with most of New England.

I also think you can find countless interesting photographic opportunities in New Mexico, especially the north-central part of the state (Santa Fe, the Turquoise trail, Taos, etc.).

If I had to choose one location that I've been to for a photographic vacation though, I'd be back in Paris. Too many pictures and too little time. But that's just me...

Be well.
Dave

I have 3 places I go to frequently.

1 - The Shenandoah Valley and surrounding area is one. There is a great history to this area, remains of former homes/churches, fantastic mountain views, farm views, hundreds of waterfalls and dozens of vineyards. The fall foliage is tops, especially the morning after a rainy night when the heavy fog envelopes the mountains.

2 - When I'm shooting wildlife I visit Chincoteague Island/Assateague National Wildlife Refuge, this is one of the major bird migration points on the east coast so the opportunity for bird photography/bird watching is excellent especially during the spring and fall migrations. There are many old homes, a lighthouse, and lots of typical small fishing town charm to it.

3 - Another place I visit may sound a little strange, but I go to The Great Dismal Swamp often. It is one of the largest wetland/swamp environments in North America. There is so much wildlife to photograph you could spend all day and never run out of subjects.

I love most places, but if I had the opportunity to go somewhere specific to take the photos I love to take, then it has to be Paris.

Durness on the far north coast of Scotland, quite magical and peaceful. To go to the opposite extreme I love photographing anywhere in New York.

Anywhere that has interesting faces.
That is everywhere in the world.
But I am also happy to be in Crete. Very photogenic.

All these places sound great, but I love photographing in my own backyard! After that, the woods in and around our town. If I can get the time, I'd like to go to Maine. The light is really beautiful up there! All that said, I'm a firm believer that with a good eye, you can make interesting photographs just about anywhere!

NAW!! Let's all meet in Paris for a photo safari! :D

The only problem I have with Paris is that there's never enough time. I've been there on various business trips, and the total number of "free days" I've had is about 10. In 10 days, I've barely managed to scratch the surface. It's a good problem to have.

Antarctica! Haven't been there yet but will some day, I hope.

My favorite location is this little spot on my tummy. Rub it an my leg twitches like crazy!
