This was described to me by the person I bought it from as a Saunders 4-on-1 4x5 enlarging easel. Has anyone used one, or know how it works?

Is this another ebay purchase?

Negative masking table?

Years ago, I worked in lab that had an easle, possibly Omega, that allowed you load a full sheet of 8x10 paper and then put on a plate with a mask (for 5x7 or 3 1/2x5 or 2 1/2x3 1/2) . Once closed you could move the paper, (it had stops for accurate positioning) to print multiple prints on a single sheet of paper without moving the easle. It even had a recessed door on the aperature so that you could change negs and refocus, allowing you to print, say, four different 3 1/2x5s on a single 8x10 sheet.

Sorry Brian, it didn't look a thing like your' mystery easle but the description put me in mind of it. Maybe your's does something similar?

Put your finger on it  .

Bless you Brian. The world needs more bidders like you. It gives me hope.

Be serious! Brian is trying to figure this out before he tells his wife what he bought this time. does it have a couch option?

Haha, ok, enought ribbing, it came in a huge lot of darkroom gear including a Jobo CPP-2, Omega D2, Beseler 23c II XL hehe, I didn't just buy this piece o' crap. hehe

If you hurry, Brian you can get another one! Looks like a different size, but the same principle.

"Saunders Michrist Wallet-Size Borderless Speed Easel can produce up to four 2 ½” x 3 ½” wallet-size prints using either 5” x 7” or 5” x 8” paper."

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=29987&item=3825768226&rd=1

I was sorely tempted myself, but I am seriously over budget on eBay this week.

Saunders/Michrist 4-up enlarging easel

This was described to me by the person I bought it from as a Saunders 4-on-1 4x5 enlarging easel. Has anyone used one, or know how it works?

I'm Mike Christ "michrist" the guy who invented a series of multiple print easels sold through Saunders. There were 4 versions of the easels made. All made multiple borderless prints on either 8 x 10, 5 x 7 or 5 x 8 paper. The single size 3.5 x 5 and 4 x 5 easels a very self explanatory. there are NO moving parts as you move the paper from side-to-side, and then reverse it after the first 2 prints are made and repeat. It is VERY fast. The easel is not made to be used for different prints from multiple negatives on one sheet of paper. It CAN be used in this manner, but you would have to remove the photographic paper and store it in a paper safe while changing negatives and making a test print to assure proper exposure. The easels were made to make rapid multiple prints of the SAME image. There is a version that makes 4 - 4 x 5's, or 3.5 x 5's, either vertically or horizontally as well as 8 wallet prints 2.5 x 3.5, or 8 business cards as well as 8 perfect circles from 1.5" to 2.5" or 4 circular prints from 2.75" to 4" in diameter.
These units are no longer being manufactured by myself, Saunders, or Tiffen as digital destroyed the darkroom. I have 3 or 4 in my possession for my own use. The appear occasionally on eBay. Hope this helps.

Mike

I have one, got it used many years ago, works really great. When needing multiple prints, way to go.

I too have one of the 4-on-1 4x5 easels, and it is great.

For those of you who participate in the Postcard exchange, you may have seen one of my 4x5 postcards. I use this easel for them.

They are also great for doing 4 4x5 test strips on the same 8x10 sheet of paper.

Mike - thanks for inventing this.

Matt

I'd say thats pretty good public relations from the manufacture having the designer read threads and post when a question comes up about a certain product. Good PR.
