I was given a bunch of stuff in a box over the weekend and this particular item has me totally stumped.

I think it may be from an LPL/Saunders 6x7 enlarger (the rest was) but I’ve *never* seen it used on one in the 20 odd years that I’ve been using several models.

So my question to the Photrio Brains Trust is: What is it, and how is it used?

Edit: Updated the title to reflect a broader question.

It doesn't look like any LPL 6x7 accessories that I've seen, and I own quite a few. The masking glass negative carrier can take glassless inserts, but they are relatively thin (about 2 mm, maybe) the same thickness as the glass that they replace.

May be a focus screen for a copy camera conversion of an enlarger. Durst made various similar devices, like this URNOV.

Now that *is* interesting; I wouldn't have thought of that myself.

Yes, I have two of those glass carriers myself. Maybe they dumped a totally unrelated part into the box. :D

Yeah, it could also be a critical focus device for a small plate camera.
