When my stepson was 6, and still believed in Santa, we made a 'graph of a black boot over a red pantleg in the fireplace looking as if it were going up the chimney with a "got him at the last possible second" story. He bought it after our solemn nodding as to the truth of our tale. Sadly, we are deeply concerned that this regrettable lapse of moral rectitude on the part of his trusted parents may doom him to a successful career in politics. Woe is we!!
