What is going on with Fujifilm Velvia and Provia availability?

Happy Days. It was €87 for the 3 rolls delivered from Fotokoch, more than I would like to pay, but still OK.

I was pleasantly surprised. By the way, I pre-ordered with Fotokoch in April 2025, so it took 8 months to arrive. Patience is needed!!!

Now I pre-ordered a couple of boxes of Provia 120 size in October so, fingers crossed, I might be lucky and get them next summer. I might not, of course.

I've had some good success recently, I found two rolls of Velvia 50 out in the wild on the shelves in a camera shop which was an amazing find. Then, a roll of Velvia 100 I ordered way back in July turned up and I bought a roll of Velvia 50 on eBay. All films are 2027 expiry. That will be enough for me to slit down for my Minox next summer.

I did. Would have to check what the breakdown was but I believe it was around 15%.

It seems that another batch reached Europe. All in all I've been able to get Velvia 50 in 120 directly off Fujifilm in Spain (also 35mm is available) and they've been well stocked online. Out of curiosity, if I can, I might pass by their physical store.
Already have about 2-3 propacks now sitting in my freezer, those were 9/26 batches. It's tempting to hoard a bit more. Earliest I might shoot some is in spring... It would be nice to be able to get Provia.

Provia seems just impossible tohey stopped making Velvia 50 in sheet format. SO that says something. Ont he other hand, Velvia 100 has a chemical that;s been outlawed in the USA as gdnaerous.

They stopped making Velvia 50 in sheet format. That tells us something. And Velvia 100 has been outlawed in all formats in the USA because it has a chemical that is dangerous.

I doubt very much you will find RVP 100 in any format in the USA. Amongst a gale of hubris and confectioned panic, it was banned some years back (5-6+ years?) due to the presence of a phenol, isopropylated phosphate — albeit in a truly miniscule amount! No such embargo exists in many other markets, certainly not Oceania (Australia, New Zealand). It certainly has not been dropped from the Fuji chrome line-up, just not distributed to the USA.

RVP 100 is something that requires more careful, conscientious exposure unlike its stablemate RVP50. It can be very overpowering untamed. I use it for pinhole photography when a bit more oomph is required.

All Fujifilm on the secondary market (e.g. eBay sellers) is exorbitantly priced to the point of being out or each of anybody other than professionals with a bloated tea money account. Around $58 to $62 (Australian dollars) for a single roll of 35mm RVP100 (before you add processing cost)... about $2-$3 cheaper for a roll of 120 format! I probably will not be buying any more of any film in 2026 — the plan is to work through 18 rolls of fresh and expired dry-frozen stock and come November 2026, will consider what I will do next. Probably, as planned, retire!

I doubt I'll ever need to buy anymore E6 film. Maybe, but I have plenty of 35mm and 120. I'm pretty much done with Fujifilm.

Observer bias. Try putting a print of the same scene, one shot with film and the other with a sim, next to each another on a table, and asking the average joe to tell you if they can tell the difference

Of course, a Fujifilm camera set to output Velvia is by definition a photograph taken using Fuji Velvia - just a different formulation, which I suppose is the Fujifilm Corp endgame plan.

I can tell RGB from CM(G/Y/K) prints by examination — as any Ilfochrome Classic printer will!
Fujifilm's overtures about film simulations are very pretentious — they are still RGB rather than CM(Green/Yellow/K [key]), but after that — things take a decidedly very complex detour when one thinks of, for example, the ultra-wide gamut of Adobe RGB that accommodates all of RGB and CM(G/Y/K) (especially on giclée printers, not so much RA4). You will not ever see the entire colour spectrum of Adobe RGB on a standard RGB monitor — unless you pay upwards of $60,000 and add calibration constants on top!

I was critically examining Fuji's simulations back in 2014-2015 — the number of iterations they went through rapidly was quite incredible; then there was a lull before they started up again. Crystal-balling, but I really do think Fuji is attempting pervesely to boot people off film and onto digital — no great surprise there. But alas, some of us are not so easily fooled.

I feel the same way really. I'm not chasing windmills with bags of cash for exorbitantly-priced film. It isn't really inflation at work, but extortion that is leveraging demand vs a persistent shortage of supply. That isn't going to improve going forward; if it was a possibility, the improvement would have happened long before now.

I’m glad I have a good stock of it in my freezer. I just added some more rolls today courtesy of a B&H order I put in last week. But $60 is beyond my limit. I don’t like Ektachrome but I guess I’ll have to figure out how to change that.

Yeah, $35.95 from B&H last Friday. Got some Velvia for $34.95 too.

That price of $59.95 is very close to what a single roll of RVP50 (also Ektachrome 100 in 35mm) costs here in Australia, which accounts chiefly for the lack of interest and still-declining use of E6 materials. Both Fuji and Kodak prices will be rising again this March.

Same here I used to own a Fuji XT-4 and the film sims just didnt do it for me. Every time I shot using the film simulations it just made me wish I shot it on film!! I did like the look of the acros B&W sim though...
