Oh ye;the Leica cult;it's like pagan theology:smile:

Lots of Leica people buy the kit and use the 40mm lens on their eg M2, selling the CL body on.
The last one I saw was on a M5.
The cosina 40mm is available in single coat as well...
The CL lens may be a Minolta.
So a Leica cult of sorts.

Hi Jon! This is a long shot given that this thread is so old, but I'm hoping you see this. I just bought a Minolta CL and after the first roll I noticed a light leak, exactly like yours. It shows up on all rolls, but only on a few frames per roll. I can't find a pattern. I see you sent yours out for repair. I contacted Sherry Krauter and all she said was "Full overhaul $250 plus shipping" which seems like overkill for just a small leak. Do you happen to remember what was causing the problem and what was needed to fix it? Any help is appreciated!! Thanks

The on-again/off-again nature of the leak is probably to do with how much time the camera (and the affected frame) has spent with the light leak facing the sun or some other bright light.

It is odd, though, that the leak shows up with a bluish tint. As was mentioned light leaks from the backside of color negative film are usually orange.

As the Leica winds the film on the take-up with the emulsion side out the leak is probably in the upper right corner where the back slides into the light trap channels. This would allow the leaked light direct access to the emulsion. Just a guess, mind.

As mentioned, try sealing around the back with black tape. In bright sun, with the lens cap on, give the leak plenty of exposure to the sun while advancing the film and peeling back the tape. The first frame showing leaked light, and the position of the pulled back tape when the camera was exposed to the sun, should narrow down the location of the leak.

Advice worth price paid.

Wow, didn't know I had responses to this thread from 2015. Good and bad news. I got this camera serviced after sitting a couple years at the service center (won't mention who) only to still have the problem (though it looks brand new) and sent it back. This time resolved. However another issue, the rangefinder patch is not longer showing the superimposed image/split image but every so slight...guessing desilvering. Anywho, this was a few years back and I was so discourgaged the camera has sat in a drawer. needless to say I got a spectacular deal (1/2 price) from a friend on a CL w/40 summicron and I now have a fully functional CL. I mainly shoot with my M5 or IIIC but also have a IIIF. Time to start shooting with the CL again. The other will one day get fixed as it was an anniversary gift and I cannot part with it.
