When I push HP5 to 3200 I use Edwal FG7 with 9% sodium sulfite. 21 minutes at 68f. I have used it for dancers portraits in very low light.

I was interested in the exchange involving Tri-X and Diafine. I have about 20 rolls of TriX (new stuff) in both 35mm and rollfilm, so I just bought some Diafine.

Thanks for the tip. It does look like that's a good combo!

I use Gitzo or supplemental lighting . Common developers only pick up 1/3 stop speed on extended development.

Diafine gives tri x a real 1200. Real means there is shadow density.

I would agree with that. Tri-X in Diafine is one of those rare combos that seems for all practical purposes to give you something you shouldn't be able to get.

It worked well with lots of other older films too, not so great with the newer ones. Oh it "works" fine, just the apparent speed increase is not there.

Hello!

I am using HP5+ and push it to 1600 whenever I need. I am developing with HC-110 diluted at 1+31 for 11 min at 20°C. I am quite happy with the results I get. Some grain but the good tones and contrast as far as I can tell. I have not done any side by side comparison with other developers so I cannot tell how it compares but compared to HP5+ at 400 I get significantly more contrast and a bit more grain but not that much. I quite like the result and the added contrast. The only exception is on highly contrasted scenes like bright sun light and shadows but in these cases pushing to 1600 is really not needed.

Just my two cents

Cheers,

Franck

I've just given kodak d76 a go using times in the HP5+ datasheet. Here's a scan of one of my prints (10x8)

The amount of contrast is hard to tell as not only have I printed it (ilford grade 1 filter) but on scanning it came out less contrasty than the print so I did a bit of editing to try and get it the same which I may have overdone. The grain is a decent representation though.
