Conference

Wayne-we're talking about MAY '06! Talked to Bob today and he is certainly a very together person. We have plenty of time to pull this together in the proper manner. Toronto is a beautiful city and the photo activities will only add to the excitement. Let's keep this post active
Regards Peter

Would love to come, but it looks too expensive for me right now (just the plane ticket round trip from Dallas is ~$450 after taxes)--I'm saving for the next Per workshop. Will look and see if I have enough points to fly to both for free

Just received an offer to be picked up in New York and driven the rest of the way which makes my cost for the entire trip around that of a plane ticket to Toronto. I'm planning on attending if this gets off the ground.

Keeping this post active for a get-together in 18 months! Is there any reason why it can't be May 2005 which is far more reasonable? Is it just me ... ?

Art.
18 months is a long time, but hopefully it will help those who live on the other continents and islands more time to plan, save, and working on convincing loved ones about the "I know it's a lot of $ but I must attend". The More the Merrier! And to be ignored by Jorge [u}in person[/U] would be a silent honour! If it was in the US or Mexico, I may be able to make it next year. If it was held in Europe, I'd need a couple years to make arrangements and save. If it was in Oz or NZ, I'd need even longer! If anyone wants to meet in May '05 or sooner (or anytime for pics and food and beer), I'm up for it, but May '06 will be the "Toronto APUG Conference"
Hopefully this will get the ball rolling and we'll see more in the future!

If you bring Speights then I'm coming, even if I have to take a row-boat. :D
I have a canoe you can borrow. I'll even throw in a spare paddle and some film of your choice, but I will want a print...

Toronto Conference

Count me in !!
For what it might be worth, I have a roomy Darkroom, fairly well equipped, although I am in Mississauga which is on the opposite side of town from Bob's place. But if there is any way I can help Bob, let me know.

APUG - CONFERENCE TORONTO MAY 2006

Just a quick report. so far I have 20 confirmed particapants, as well volounteers for help and teaching, I am very encouraged. I will be speaking to Mr Callow this weekend regarding logistics.

Art : why 2006, I have planned large events before and I can tell you 18 months is a very short time to pull together something worthy of attending, I would expect that each attendee will walk away from Toronto completely inspired and full of great memories. I need this period to get all the right stuff together,

I still require more emails as I am collecting all the names as this thread goes on , it helps me gage the direction of workshops, functions bla bla bla.

Although I disagree with the logic behind the timeline, based on my own experience organizing events as a board member and event coordinator of several industry and non-profit organizations, I will back you you up on this anyway I can.

Regards, Art.

Believe me, if you ever drank Speights you too would take a row boat.

18 months is a good lead time; I generally go to Australia every year, so I would need the extra time to factor in (save) for the trip. As for traveling, I find it MUCH cheaper and easier to travel to Australia/New Zealand than to Europe. I skipped Australia in 2003 and went to Germany instead - it was a killer, financially, and even worse now with the plummeting dollar.

You know I new that, but was a year behind for some reason. I can't believe 05 is so close. Yes 06 was what I was referring to.

I wrote Bob this morning. We may need a seperate thread outlining the conference so it isn't buried in this one, and so people can access the latest updates and view online promotionals. Other thoughts?

APUG CONFERENCE TORONTO MAY 2006

Thank you all for your positive emails, not one negative voice

I have spoken with John Callow over the weekend and we both are excited to organize this conference in 2006 here in Toronto. I am going to be responsible for the facility and all workshop details, John is prepared to help with the campaign and advise me on issues that will crop up.

More detailed posts will follow in the near future.

We (bob and I) are ironing out the final details and will be presenting them soon.

It looks as if this Conference could be a stellar thing.

call this a bump to get you thinking about the conference and some of the things you'd like to see and how you might be able to contribute.

I'm thinking

You've bumped my interest. Can't wait for the details.

John and Bob, What are the dates for this, or has it been planned yet? Reason, Sharon, Ann, and myself are planning the Old Broads Tour of France and Spain the last two weeks of May, first week of June 2006.

Hi Aggie
The conference will be before the 15th of May 2006, you can attend the conference and go to the sweet young things, tour of france and spain. What a month you will have , we are very serious about this, John and I as well as Peters have been diligently working behind the scenes to make this happen. I can say that there will be a major print competition with this event that we will be launching this month as well as posting the detalis of our event. Hang in there we are very close to announcing this event with Seans blessing.

Dang! Makes me wish I were old instead of just broad! :D

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob on the weekend and touring the labs and galleries. Great place you've got there. Since I live in Toronto I'm sure I'll be going and I'd like to help get this off the ground. Bob I'll send a PM.

Not officially sanctioned by APUG, but coming up in just a few days:

I am sure they are very nice, but not my kind of photographers. I can hide, I can lie, but the truth remains... I love photo process, I love equipment. I love alernative image making. The pitchers are nice, but getting there is 9/10's the fun.

tim next door in san jose

I am curious as to progress on firming up a date for this. I plan to attend as a participant but also would like to know if there will be a site for any vendors similar to what they do at the View Camera conferences. I would like to be able to take 2 or three ULF cameras and show them and possibly provide individuals an opportunity to expose some film.

The conference will be held in Toronto at the Elevator Gallery in may 2006 during the Contact Photography Festival.

I am working with Bob Carnie on some of the final details, but here are some points.

There will be space for vendors and opportunities for sponsorships from manufacturers and suppliers who support this site and analog photography.

There will be workshops, round table discussions and demonstrations. We will be fielding applications for these shortly.

There will be photo outings and Gallery tours.

Finally and possibly most importantly there will be a juried show with cash prizes.

We are working hard to make a foundation from which this convention will be a success and one that can be used as a template for future APUG conventions.

Bear with us as we sort the details. If you or any other APUGer wish to participate as a vendor, sponsor, speaker or demonstrator please PM me and Bob.

Some things that probably need to be said. All those who are going to give a workshops will be paid, All those who wish to attend the work shop will pay a fee, all vendors and sponsors will be charged a fee, all money left over is going to APUG and most importantly neither Bob nor I can afford to underwrite this nor are we looking to profit from it.

OOOOOHHHHHHHHHH, May 2006 - that gives me plenty of time to save for this. Great idea.
