Lately been learning 4x5 Arista 400 EDU. Shot at 200, in three different formats and lenses. 3x4`9X12 and 4X5. Becoming quite pleased with it, getting its developing time down and its use. ;-)

Haha so you're on the other side, you prefer to live dangerously at the edge of oblivion haha
I am not hording film. I just buy it as I go. I happened to live right next to one of the biggest camera stores in Tokyo.
I have a hard time believing Kodak will discontinue Tri-X unless they go out of business. Provia400X is not discontinued in Japan at least. Their Japanese website doesn't mention anything, while they do mention discontinuing provia 100f in non-35mm formats etc. We'll see what happens. But for now I am enjoying these films.

What?? That can't be right, Provia400X was completely discontinued production wise.

And Provia100f can't possibly be discontinued it's their most popular film... That makes no sense and has to be wrong...

check this site. All of them are still available in 135. some of the other formats have been discontinued. The red writing lists what's been discontinued. Provia400X is the only one that doesn't have any remarks. It's also widely available here in Tokyo. (may only be left over stock, but there's a ton of this film in the stores here)

Just because they still have large stocks there and it's for sale it doesn't mean it's not discontinued. There was an official notice from fuji. They stopped production.

Does 400x and Velvia 100F have new boxes? No? They are discontinued, no matter how you think otherwise.

They also list Neopan 400 on their website. It is discontinued too!

The stores don't run out of stock the hour something stops being produced.

That's fine. I'll switch to something else when I can't buy it anymore. But again, for right now, I enjoy shooting it!

I enjoy it as well, but I have bough a number of rolls and thrown it into freezer. Just so I can enjoy it that little bit longer.

If I was still in Japan I would buy extra roll of 400x and neopan 400 while I'm around yodobashi and throw it in the freezer.

Good idea! Neopan 400 is also one of the cheapest 400 speed b&w films available here. I might as well buy a bunch, dump it in the freezer and enjoy it a few years down the road.

Yea, the only film that's available THERE (Japan) but not everywhere else is Velvia50 in sheet film, for some reason they decided to only keep it in Japan despite the US begging for it to stay.

Velvia100/50, Provia100f and Neopan Acros 100 are the only films that got the "new boxes/packaging/labeling" and this tells you what really is still in production.

The rest is leftover stock. In fact, even Fuji and distributors got really confused recently because with the new box/label came a new SKU number... And the way Fuji went about their change, made it SEEM like they stopped making it because no one knew there even was a new SKU and when ordering using the old SKU, they were told "no longer available" instead of "hey, for future reference the sku changed" so people were freaking out everywhere...

I even had to convince B&H, the biggest film seller in the damn world, that Velvia100 sheet film was still available because the "buyer" (guy in charge of buying wholesale) didn't believe me, and even his Fuji Rep didn't know the SKU changed...

Just really bad communication on Fuji's part.

Neopan400 love that stuff!!! Sad I wasn't shooting 120 when it was discontinued or I would have stocked up! I still have 5-10 rolls in 35mm but when it's gone... HP5+ it will be...

Provia400X is great but I don't shoot that much color to invest in it... Just one pro pack of 120 left!

I second or is it third that Neopan (Presto in Japan) is the best 400 speed film. I like it's grain and it's sharper than TriX.
I soup it in Super Prodol and it comes out great. I have a whole stack of it in freezer and I want to buy more.
I shoot it alongside trix, since they both have different looks. Once it's gone, it's TriX for me with a bit of Tmax for finer grain.

HP5+ is more versatile, cheaper, and will be around decades longer...? Hehe

It's cheaper, insignificantly so unless you buy 100' rolls. It MAY or may not be around longer, hard to say. More versatile? Um... dunno about that. HP5+ is a great film but Tri-X is still my all time favorite if-I-could-have-only-one black and white film.

This. I love 400X but it's discontinued, and getting hard to find here. I stocked up, and I may get some more for the freezer.

It's a hard one to lose because not only is it a superb film it's the last remaining slide film faster than 100, other than that German made 200 that may also go away and that seems to produce inconsistent results for different people.

Sorry Roger, I'm mostly talking 4x5 sheets these days... It's like half the price of TriX/Tmax400 there...

When I look at film prices I look at the spectrum of sizes because I shoot them all, and decided to choose the best cheapest in all formats, and that becomes all ilford for 100 and 400 speeds.

Wish I had been able to snag the Neopan400 in 100' cans for re-rolling my own... Can't even get that!

Can't even get Acros100 in cans anymore it seems Fuji stopped doing 100' cans... I would buy some Provia100f in a heartbeat if it came in long rolls...
