I'm not liking the sample pictures. That says nothing about the film, but they're badly edited/scanned in that there are no real whites, the scale ends at a light grey. Not a lot of shadow detail either. I'm positive they don't do the film justice.

How about the RMS Granularity, MTF Resolution plot, or even a simple H&D Curve to see how this film compares to the competition.

Looks bit like underexposed as the shadows are so destroyed.

Not great example digital files either.

They are mostly not to my tastes. I've looked at them on two different monitors and as someone already pointed out, there's no white....the scale seems to end in a light grey.

BUT...I wish them well. Just because it's not to my tastes doesn't mean a bunch of other people won't enjoy it. I hope they sell the entire 36,000 limited edition and gain funds to carry on with their various projects. And I hope this film is successfully delivered and enhances their reputation.

I get the impression "It's new, it's scarce, order it now" is the marketing of today.
But to be fair to "Orwo", they do not take orders yet.

Instead they ask "spread the word". What we have done.

If they hope to spread excitement by example, I suspect these photos fails.

But then, I don't know what to expect from ORWO - a film intended to compete on the Ilford or Kodak level? Mid range Kentmere level? Budget Foma level? - or perhaps the ridiculous overpriced underperforming "experimental" level which seems to be so popular these days?

I don't have an immediate need for ISO 100 film (got a roll of Kentmere 100, nearly full, in a bulk loader). Not likely to buy 35 mm in single cassettes any time soon, either.

Methinks this platform populace isn't their target audience, they are going after a different group of photography enthusiasts.

To be honest, nothing particularly exciting about it, aside from the fact that it is a new film. To be honest no use for it since a)Mostly use 400 since I do a lot of indoor/available light photography, b) not on 100ft (I do a lot of small rolls for pushing/pulling and different dev/cameras) and c) while the cat photo is great nothing really outstanding (IMHO) on the pictorial qualities. Many would differ, which is great but not including this on my "to buy" list.

They are just a series of shots which really demonstrate nothing special about this new film. If you had placed them as a series in the gallery but not mentioned whose film it was, I for one would not have been prompted to ask whose film this was as there is nothing I see here that is both attractive and different from other b&w 100 speed films to make me want to ask

Sorry

Also, not sure if this is due to the devopment (not stated) but the contrast/highlights are umm strange. I like contrast but his different on a way I don't particularly like. So if it is like/don't like I would go for not like.

As photographs I like them but a curve would be more useful in identifying what the film can do

I hope they don't promote these sample shots too much, they look horrible.

This happened when Kodak re-released Ektachome. The scans they posted on social media weren't so great. Film turned out okay. You can't really tell anything without the negatives in your hands, which is why everyone posting scans of Ferrania wasn't that helpful either. If you are interested in exploring this new film, you are just going to have to order a few rolls and see for yourself. The internet is good for some things, not so good for others.

Anyone seen what a roll of this new ORWO film is going to cost?
