ads are a dead way of making money. Ad-Blocking will only continue to rise. Sites that want to make $ need to find a new revenue model.

I think it's OK. If you benefit from a site and donations requested offer a token of appreciation. If you look at YouTube sites, they have ads. That's a way of paying.
