Tonight I developed a couple rolls of Tri-X in HC-110 and as the first rolls was drying it started to look very strange. There was a very grainy/splotchy residue on the film. After I noticed it I rinsed the film again and it seemed to come clean. Now it's hanging up again and it's too early to tell if it's ok or not. I just hung up the second roll so we'll see what happens. My process is as follows:
HC-110 (B) 6:30 with agitation for 1 minute followed by 10 seconds every minute
Kodak stop bath for 1 minute
Kodak fixer for 6 minutes
Water rinse for 30 seconds
Hypo Clear for 2 minutes
Water rinse for 5 minutes (with complete water exchange 3 or 4 times)
Photoflo for 30 seconds
I suspect that I may have accidentally used Hypo Clear for the last step instead of Photoflo. I thought I had equal amounts of hypo clear and photoflo premixed, but the hypo clear jug feels noticeably lighter so there is a good chance that I used it twice on the first roll and didn't use the photoflo. Would this cause a residue on the film? On the second roll I'm sure I followed the process shown above so we'll see how it turns out. Another possibility is that my photoflo has gone bad. I mixed it up about 2 months ago in a 2 gallon batch. But since it is basically just soapy water I wouldn't think it would go bad.
