This is a great point, actually. Every film-related item I own has appreciated in value, therefore selling photo equipment makes sense only if you found a faster appreciating asset class, and even then one must consider diversification. A well-balanced portfolio must consist of stocks, bonds, real estate, hasselblads, bitcoin, and frozen Fuji 400H pro.

I think film has outperformed the stock market in the last couple years. That's saying something.

No kidding. Just saw a Leica Summilux 50 R goes for $1500. Bought that for $700 a couple o years ago. etc etc

Well, I think the only camera I really regret trading away was my Patent Etui -- 9x12 cm plate camera, reputedly the most compact large format camera ever manufactured; with a 135 mm lens and ground glass back, when closed it was comparable in size to a 6x9 folder (a little wider, but less thick). If it had come with the Skopar or Heliar instead of Radionar, I probably wouldn't have traded it (I didn't know then that a triplet is just as good when stopped down the way you'd normally do with such a camera anyway).

I traded it for my Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta B (532/16), and I'm happy with that camera -- but the Patent Etui produced 3x the negative area and was both slightly smaller (than a 6x6 RF folder!) and considerably lighter.

After technician failed repair on my Rolleiflex sl66 and he failed to stand for warranty and tried to charge me a second $900 I guess I got tired and sold the nonworking body and all the lenses I got at the time (ranging from 40mm to 250mm). Greatly regret selling those lenses.

Sold my minty, recently CLAd Hasselblad 501CM and instantly regretted it. Of course I have two other Hasselblads but I had not realized that being down to just two Hasselblads would be so much worse than having three Hasselblads.

This miserable experience led me to conclude that the only rational way to move forward in life is to acquire all remaining Hasselblad/Zeiss lenses I do not currently own, including the 38mm. Lucky me, this lens always comes with another Hasselblad attached to it, so I will be sufficiently rehasselbladed soon.

I can't find any error on that logic.

hum... there would be the 500C Blad, with its' 80mm, the Tachihara and some of the lenses I had with it... May be the Yashica mat 124 (too similar to the Rolleiflex).

And some lenses like the first Jupiter 12 I've got, which was really great.

Many years ago, I sold off a small collection of film and digital cameras I had acquired. It was an odd time in my life when I learned I didnt have the personality to do portraits and weddings and wasnt as good at making art as I felt like I should have been.

I still have one Pentax K1000 and a digital Pentax, neither of which have gotten the use they deserve. After Christmas, I hit up a local camera shop and picked up a roll of film to run through the k1000 to see if everything is functional still. If so, I'd like to get back in to shooting slides. Maybe I'll end up with more cameras later

Leica M6TTL, 35/2 Aspherical, 90/2 Summicron-M, Rollencord Vb. But in 2010 I'd just lost my job and needed to pay bills... and those cameras weren't going to make me any money. Of course all that gear is worth more now than in 2010, so it goes. The gear I saved helped keep me afloat until things got better.

I had sold a Topcon RE-Auto Topcor 85mm f1.8. They’re as rare as hens teeth but bills had to be paid. It’s a really lovely lens I wish I had the chance to give it a nice CLA and mount it on my digital but oh well.

* Hasselblad 80mm f/2.8 T* lens in chrome (my copy was tack sharp and just a pleasure to use)
* Fujifilm TX-1 (XPAN) - had mine serviced by PCW as well, what an incredible camera that I can no longer afford to "buy back"
* Ricoh GR21 - I mentioned in another thread that I recently realized looking through some old work that I had really used this thing without abandon during my ownership of it, I'd love to own it again, but wish it didn't depend so heavily on the electronics / motor.

It's pretty mind boggling how the analog world has exploded in recent years, bit of a strange feeling for me, since I'm really returning to photography in general after a several year hiatus... who knew Leica M6s would be every youtuber's favorite camera?

I have traded equipment on new purchases without regret. About 10 years ago I went on a big GAS spree when gear was at throwaway prices. Time to cull the herd and I think I will do alright out of it.

In Australia people are asking silly prices for Yashicamat 124G's, Spotmatics and Canon AE-1's. I bought all mine for an average of about $AUD75.00 each. Should clean up on these.

Mind you they are not getting the RZ67 Pro 2 outfit I bought here in 2014 for $850. Sorry @braxus

Off topic, as this is a 35mm section. But I understand. Everyone today wants the Pro 2 body and not the earlier version 1. Im selling the version 1. Its really been a hard sell for me. Even reducing the prices on my RZ67 kit, offering to sell pieces of it, etc. I've had no interest on this site over the 3 months I've had it listed here. Im getting the rubber piece fixed on mine. I have since removed my ad here out of the fact its pointless listing it here. I'll continue to sell it elsewhere. People don't want to spend the prices these RZs are going for now.
