What are these black lines/splotches?

They only appear to go through these two frames but the marks extend along the sides for a bit further up. This is from my 2nd/3rd roll. First roll turned out okay as did the other roll I did at this time. I can't recall if this was on the top or the bottom of the spindle. Any help would be appreciated.

Why would they not be on the other rolls and all the way along this roll?

It is probably a defective light seal in the film cartridge. The start of the film ( low numbers ) is exposed through the slot but protects the inner part of the filmroll.

It makes sense with the edges continuing further I suppose as the sprocket holes would let the light through too

If you're using a bulk loader, time for a new cartridge!

This looks to be a factory load roll of Tri-X, so it is a little bit strange.

Unless of course, you are the only person in recorded history who has been able to make the frame numbers line up perfectly with bulk loaded film.

This sort of leak usually happens if the felt is bad on a cassette.

Yeah, it's factory loaded. Could it be anything to do with humidity when it was in the camera or incorrect developing?

Unless there is any sign of inhomogeneous development of the emulsion I would rather vote for light leak. Some signs on the side also indicate that.
I had some similarities when negative sticks somehow together at some section in the tank, however there should be that inhomogeneous emulsion development sign then.
Quite artistic, no worries, people would spend hours in Photoshop to get these filmy characteristics ! [emoji14]

Sometimes even fresh factory loaded cartridges get lip light leaks when handled under very bright light. If it is light leak coming in through the lip of the cartridge it will be strong on a number of first frames and progressively lighter at the later ones as the light leak gets attenuated by the layers of the film on the spool.
It has nothing to do with humidity and development. Make sure that you load/unload your rolls under subdued light.

Well that fits. I loaded into the camera the two good rolls I've done myself indoors at home, the other at midday outside in Kununurra about a week a go.
