I´m afraid Brazil is the only place in the world in wich Valentine is celebrated in June 12th. ( Probably because February is already taken with Carnival!!! )

Good luck and Happy Valentine!

I’ve checked on the two possible places that were mentioned to meet. One would be the central valley wildlife refuges near Santa Nella. This gives easy access from I-5 It is about midway in the state. The second is San Lorenzo park In king City. This is on hwy 101 about mid way again in the state. I leave it up to the rest of those who attend to choose a site. I will post a poll for each place. Along with it I have links to a good motel near Santa Nella, and also links to the National Wildlife refuges near by. King City I have the link for San Lorenzo park. No particular motel or hotel links for King City.

I'm game for either place Aggie. Not so keen on Las Vegas though.

my unofficial vote would be for King City (only 20 miles from Jolon and Mission San Antonio!)

Dave Wooten, it would be central to have it in vegas if this was a south west get together. Problem is this is for California, sort of a freeway meet. Las Vegas is in the wrong state. You are very much welcome to come and join us in California.

Is the weekend nearest valentines ok with people? If it is, lets give this until next Monday for replies, then stick to the most popular place. If we have more than 10 people, we usually get a discount on rooms.

so...

Hi all,
I've been reading this thread with some interest. I'm a bit confused - how does this trip/outing work? The comment about discounts on rooms - is this a multi-day affair? Obviously that depends on where it is, I know but...I'm just unclear on specifics, but I'd like to maybe join in if it's okay (I'm new).

danke,

I'll check with my social coordinator (aka 'The One Who Must Be Obeyed') but, the weekend nearest valentines (12,13 February?) sounds good...pencil me in. I'll cast my vote for King City.

I've never been to one of these either so don't know what to expect...well, I have a general idea...
-- talk about lenses, cameras, film, etc...
-- drink scotch/bourbon/wine
-- view others' art, and maybe...
-- make some photos?

I hope to see a bunch of LF shooters. Maybe we can have our own, informal LF workshop ???

Why Not Vegas?

Hi, My name is Glennla,

I live in Vegas, and there are very few serious analog people in town.

I’d love to link up with a fun group like yours, if only for a weekend!

And besides, flights are faily cheap…and frequent!

Although San Lorenzo Park itself is of much less interest to me personally than the wetlands landscape potential around the nature reserve area, King City may provide more varied opportunities for folks with different photographic tastes.

I'm assuming an agenda that might look something like:

Friday evening - gather at [hm]otel, meet for drinks or whatever, informally organize into sub-groups for next-day shoots

Saturday - shoot, shoot, shoot - potentially in different sub-groups at different locations around the area

Saturday evening - dinner, party, exchange of day's war stories, drawing for all-expense paid two-month sabatical on Bora Bora.

Sunday - return home.

OK, maybe the Bora Bora thing is a stretch.

But, does the rest of the proposed agenda sound reasonable?

Sounds like fun. Thanks for the clarification. Hopefully my wife will let me go...

I realize we haven't finalized a place yet, but I'm putting out an early inquiry for some transportation help (if I can make it). Is there a chance someone could give me a ride? I'm in the bay area, mid-peninsula. I can drive 30 or so minutes to someone else's place, but, due to health issues, I can't drive much longer than that by myself.

anyway. hopefully I can make it.

Bump......

A few of us have discussed this in the chat room. the decision came out for the most central location of the Santa Nella exit on I-5. this puts us right where the wildlife refuges of the central valley are located. I will send off an email to roman Loranc and see if I can talk him into coming and meeting some of his fans. ;ets try for the weekend starting the 11th of Feb. spome can arrive that night, or they can make it the next day in the morning. let us know here if you can attend.

See further up in this thread the link to the Best western in Santa Nella.

Well, I'm interested but was reminded that my son's fourth birthday is the 11th so, I'm probably not able to make it.

I'm interested, and my calendar is marked. But I can't make any guarantees.

What was the decision in the chat room as far as an agenda?

I'm interested too Aggie, but like Ralph, can't promise but will also mark it the calendar.

When it gets closer I can say yeah or neigh with more conviction.

Thanks, sounds fun and any weekend doing something away from the norm is welcomed.

Bumpy bump.

Was there an agenda established, Aggie? Meeting times, places, and that sort of thing? Thanks.

Los Banos Refuge issues

I've been following this thread and have to maybe put a wet ( appropriate to the season ) blanket on the refuges.

This is prime duck hunting season. As I understand it, until the season is over, you can only access the refuges if you have a hunting license.

In late November I went on a foray into the Kesterson refuge. The game warden informed me in no uncertain terms that I had to leave. No touristing about is alowed during hunting season.

So, if anyone has a contact with the refuges, it would be a good thing to check.

I'd hate to see everyone show up and not get to where you wanted to go.

Of course that would be a great excuse to go into beautiful downtown Los Banos and gorge on Basque food ( the Woolgrowers Restaurant is an experience in itself).

Looks like the various waterfowl and game bird seasons end by the end of January. It still wouldn't hurt too check with the refuge management folks regarding access restrictions, however.

I'm still wondering whether there was some sort of rough agenda established in the chatroom discussions.

I just spent the past 45 minutes calling various numbers from the state on down to the lonely outpost in the Los Banos area of the fish and game commission. The weekend of Feb. 12 on is perfectly open provided there is no flooding. We will self register at the little booths, and from there we go in. The cost is a whopping $2.50 per day if you are over 16 and do not possess a valid California hunting or fishing license. So there will be no restrictions preventing us from pgotographing other than mother nature.

The only rough things e had disccussed were that most people would be getting off work on the afternoon of Friday the 11th. That would be travel time that evening for some. Saturday morning would also be a time when some would travel there. So If this works out, I would leave instructions of where to go and such at the main desk of the motel for those who arrive on Saturday morning. That way you can go to the same places we are heading out too. About Noon we can meet at the hotel again, and share good places we found eat lunch, and pick up any person who arrived earlier . The dinner meal that night is one we would all can plan for. We can bring prints to share, and gnerally just hang out together. Sunday would be another day we can go otu shooting, and also that evening travel back home.
