Philip you write that you intend to update the document over time. If you find time to do this; please let us know.

The next opportunity I will (probably) have to update this document is the next time I CLA my own Norma again. That may be a winter or two from now, but I do indeed intend to improve this document and I'll make sure to post about it here when I do.

Jerry, I'm sorry to say I don't have any information on servicing the Sinar Pan-Tilt head. You might try contacting John Wimberley by email (tjwimberley@charter.net) to see if he knows how to service the Pan-Tilt head. John was very helpful to me when I serviced my Sinar Norma recently; he also reviewed the service guide I wrote. I know he uses a Sinar Pan-Tilt head, and services his own equipment where possible, so he may be able to offer some guidance.

Good luck!

--Philip.

BTW, Philip, do you have similar maintenance info for the Sinar Pan-Tilt head that I got when I bought my Norma (new) in about 1968. Some slight play has developed in the pan when locked, and when not locked it sometimes jams and will not rotate. So I'm thinking of disassembling it to see what's causing all this.

TIA,
Jerry

I purchased new also about the same time. Cost me $650 as I remember, but mine was the 'Expert' model, including case, more rail, bellows etc. They are indeed wonderful machines, but I find the now out- of- production- apparently Arca a little easier to work with.

Hi !
I have to disagree.
Arca Swiss is still in business, has new models coming out. They just moved from Switzerland to France a few km away from their previous location.
I'm told they will soon have a web site ;-)
In the mean time look at the Misura ... one of their latest models..
While I'm at it, I particularly enjoyed the manual to CLA a Norma put on the WEB by Philip !
I'll thank him a lot for this tremendous job !

Philip, that is a wonderful manual. Just reading through it makes me wish I had my old Norma (I know where it is and may try to steal it) so I could CLA it. My only suggestion is MORE PICTURES. I really enjoyed them as they bring back lots of wonderful memories.

Norma CLA Manual

Apologies for reviving this old thread.
The link to Phillip's manual for servicing a Norma no longer connects.
Does anybody have a newer link, or the manual downloaded that they could share please?

Could there be anything special in servicing other than standard fine-mechanical procedures?

EDIT:
I read that manual and there indeed is nothing special in it, except for one. But it offers a lot of photos.
As expected looking at such camera in detail and handling it, should reveal its construction. (Contrary to most lenses...)
Only critical part may be chosing a right end cap to remove.

(It is still on the net, you can find it at the Internet Archive:https://web.archive.org/web/2014072...tent/uploads/2009/RoughGuideSinarNormaCLA.pdf)
