Hi OGs, I think the world is not gonna be the same after this war.

What is the one key takeaway for a photography career that you guys wanted to give to the younger generation? Especially in film photography, since we're living in a really digital world.

The world is never quite the same after each second that passes.

I don't see any connection between the present geopolitical situation (discussion of which is mostly out of scope of this forum; please see the forum rules) and analog photography as such.

My advice for a career would be to get a good education, and to enjoy photography, which does not mean the two should necessarily be combined. If photography happens to weave into your career at some point, that's great. Don't bank on it.

If you're determined to make a career out of photography, don't get yourself stuck on the analog bit and just use whatever approach works to get the job done. That, of course, will depend on the job, which is entirely up to you to choose. All I know is that the 'jobs' that might benefit from an analog approach, which boils down to a subset of fine art photography, are very difficult to sell. Which brings me back to my earlier point.

PS: if you're an artist, you will likely not heed any sensible advice.

Advice: If for a career to earn money, don't bother...

Put away that damned cell phone - look around you and NOTICE, take in what you see. You just might, for atleast alittle while, APPRECIATE what beholds before you, around you, not to mention developing something called an 'attention span'.
Now, about this career thing - sorry, ain't 'gonna happen.
However, getting back to my first principal: If you follow it, stick to it, over time, you just might develop into something known as an artist, where you could get grants to help with $$costs.

I don't know about careers in photography, but Google street view of the posher parts of HCMC look almost unrecognizable to me (I was there in 2008): The thick tangles of overhead wires were gone, and I noticed at least one exotic-car dealer. If the war accelerates the move away from fossil fuels in VN, that could totally transform city streets. If I were there now, I'd want to document the final days of the fossil fuel era.

In the midst of endless war, population replacement and economic collapse I'm sure there will always be a demand for photography.

Look at the old Wisconsin Death Trip book, those togs made mint!

Oh, I dunno. You can make money in film. But you need more, much more, than a just fancy camera and a swagger. 😉
