What 98 bucks bought me at the camera show today

I went with the intention of finding some darkroom stuff, but ended up buying a few other things: An Olympus XA, a Vivitar 283, a Calcu-Flash II, a Paterson System 4 tank with two reels, an old Paterson safelight, and a Peterson's Photo magazine from 1980 or thereabouts. What fun on the cheap. Now to try and decipher the Calcu-Flashes' instructions (very poorly written but found online for free).

I have used that very calcu flash for 25 or 30 years. I have used it a lot and it still works good as ever. Mine has always been off by 2/3 stop but I just figure that into the film speed setting. Let me know if you don't want it.

Hey guys! I had no idea I made out so well; I kinda figured that so much analog photo gear is going for so little these days. Geez, I saw perfectly good Pentaxes, Minoltas and Canons decked out with normal lenses going for like 50 bucks. Even higher-end MF stuff like Mamiya 645s, RB67's were 350-500. Hasseblad stuff was a fraction of what I used to see it for even in the 80's.

Must be nice... Actually it is really nice.

Down here in southeast Missouri, it has been a hard scrabble life for many for generations. Most of what you see is very well worn, low end cameras. If it has much life left in it, it gets used till it dies. No money in these parts for top of the line gear.

I've wound up driving three hours, or more to pick up a nice film cam. But then cost of living is affordable.
