Not sure you'll have much luck on win98, you could switch it to linux or dual boot to linux.

Fascinating! It works fine with Internet Explorer, ha! Don't sweat it, my old
desktop is a Pentium Pro running Windows98 and Firefox. Will either use
I.E. here or laptop with Pentium III and Windows2000 professional and Firefox.
Funny, worked fine until last night. Ah well, back in the 1960's I was ticked
off when my mainframe stopped supporting my accoustic coupler at 196 baud!
This is being typed on desktop with I.E. ha! Too much spyware for my tastes.
Best regards,
/Clay

Marco, looks like the updates (although don't show much of a difference to the end users as you mentioned) have done wonders for server load. We hit 1,160 online at once today and loads were 0.80 -before upgrades this would have been in the 2.40 range. So they must have cleaned up quite a bit of code that generated unnecessary load. I'm pretty happy about that, now just need to iron out a few more issues and we'll be looking good.

Good to hear that Sean. With our membership close to hitting 50.000, that can only be a good thing.

Hi Sean -

I am using MAC OS 10.6.6 and Safari 5.0.3. Both are the most recent releases.

Attached is a pdf of an example from the Gallery with the picture information being displayed below the comments. Thanks!!

That is indeed not correct, and I can reproduce your results on Safari 5.0.3 running on my Windows XP SP3 machine.

It seems a Safari specific issue, as I have now tried all of my other browsers, and none show the same issue. In those other browsers, the image information is displayed in the normal position directly under the image, to the right of the comments (directly below "Printable version" link).

Browsers showing no issue: Firefox 3.6.13, Opera 10.63, Google Chrome 8.0.552.237, IE 8.0.6

Hi Sean,

Firstly, thanks for all the work you do making APUG a great place to be.

Bug spot - I tried to add an image from the gallery to my 'favourites' from the 'image tools' menu but that option seems to have disappeared??

The "Last activity" message on the Groups page still shows when someone last viewed a group, not when someone actually added a new post or reply to that group.
So you get the impression there's life still in a group and go have a look, only to find out that all that happened was that someone else had a look too.
That someone, or someone else still, then finds the "Last activity" indicator changed and goes to have a look, only to find that [etcetera], which then [etcetera].

When many people are lured into a group to find the corpse of a long deceased, inactive group, APUG still lists it as recently active.

Could it please be changed to indicate only the time and date of new posts? Please?

Clicking "reply to thread" bumps you into the quick reply box again. But I don't care as much - I kinda got used to using the quick reply before.

I thought that might happen, will re-adjust

I've tested with Safari 3 and that was ok. Are you on a browser older than Safari 3?

I did a new thread in the Lounge a little bit ago, and it told me I was posting a duplicate to my own post, and needed to wait 5 minutes.
I'm running Safari 5.0.3 on a Mac.

bug/issues

I still can't read forums other than system announcements using firefox 2.0.0.20. Other forum topic/outlines are jumbled/overlaid off to the right and below SA. I can view forums with safari 1.3.2. I haven't investigated any further. If I remember correctly I can not update my browsers on this computer due to chip architecture.

I've had no trouble with Firefox = everything fast load, clean, and no problems. Haven't tried MS explorer.

Attn Safari users: The gallery info bar pushed to page bottom in the gallery should be fixed now. Thanks

Sean, I tested it on my Windows XP / Safari 5.0.3. Image "Information" box is now in the right position directly below the image!

You are probably out of luck unless you can upgrade to at minimum a Windows XP based system. We just can't develop the site to be compatible with tech over a decade old. This is less than 0.1% of traffic. You should be able to snag a Win XP system off of craig's list or ebay for $30-$50. It won't be the fastest thing in the world but you can then run modern web browsers. You could also try running Linux on an older system which can give you modern browser access. Good luck.
