I just picked up a new to me EOS 1N, and while checking it out found something strange.

With the back open it always seems to fire the same shutter speed. Whatever I set it to, including bulb mode, I get the same speed (sounds the same, no measuring tool available). Is this normal for this model?

Thank you,

FWIW, my 1V's don't do that - they respond as expected when I change the shutter speed with the back open.

Problem solved, sorta...

I reset the camera's custom functions (cf and clear button) and its now acting like I'd expect. I don't see anything in the manual about a function causing this "feature" but I've still more reading to do.

Thanks for checking yours for me Oren, much appreciated!

I think the EOS 3 does that too and some other cameras I used, can't remember exactly which ones but I believe the theory is that it protects the shutter as if you leave it on bulb or a long exposure you could stick something in and destroy the shutter when it closes with your finger still in there.
