After more than 10 years, I've finally completely re-designed my Dead Link Removed. There are still a couple of text pages that need work, but all of the image galleries are in place. Any feedback is appreciated...

Damn! If these look that good on a computer monitor, I can only imagine how nice they look in person. Your site design is simple, direct, and works very well - it's easy to get around and to view your work, and the image quality is just stunning for a web page. It looks really impressive to me, very nice job.

Have always loved your work and now it's a little easier to view it. I think overall it's pretty good. Definitely better than your last version. Just don't wait another ten years to make version three

I had two comments. First, it was unclear if I could purchase from you directly or had to go through a gallery. This may or may not be an issue depending on what your site is intended to do. Second, there's a typo in the first sentance in the last paragraph on the Bio page.

Overall I think it's a big improvement and wish you all the best in this journey.

Alan.

MY main comment would be the black text on the dark background is very hard to read to the point you almost miss it. Also the simple viewer loads really slow and on the web if people have to wait they leave which means a potential sale of your images gone.

Also the images appear very dark and very hard to see, maybe a calibration strip so people can tune their monitor to be able to view your images properly as you want them to be seen.

I am on a PC and if you are using a MAC it will be different and I am on a CRT monitor and if you are calibrating on an LCD it will be much darker for CRT CRT viewers.

Also all your links work on the bottom of your site except for the pricing.

The site is very easy to navigate and I love those clown images! They are great...

Great job...

Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it.

Kevin - Your monitor must be calibrated much darker than mine. I use an LCD at home and a old CRT where I work. The black text against a medium gray background is easily readable on both and the images look "normal". Also, the Simpleviewer loads very quickly for me (DSL). What kind of connection are you on?

The pricing page isn't done yet, therefore the link is still inactive.

I'd like to hear from others if the images look dark or the images load painfully slowly. Also, any Mac users - how do the images look?

Thanks again, everyone!

Unfortunately I am on IDSN as I cant get DSL where I live.

The orange and yellow text is brilliantly easy to read, the black text on what I think is about 75% grey, is not so easy, in fact I gave up.

I run windows and a very good LCD screen.

Another person alongside me with better eyes also found the black type slightly hard to read.

Another point is the workshop pages. If I wished to print this out for later reference, will the black type on the grey background work?

I ask this as I often print out relevant pages when I order or book something.

Mick.

I just tried your site from home and it loads reasonably well, considering my connection is dialup.

Thanks, again for the feedback. Diane, I'm glad it's not intolerably slow on dialup...

I've changed the background from being about 60% gray to about 50% gray. I hope this makes the text easier to read. I don't want the background too light, because it starts to overpower the muted tones of the wet plate work - especially with LCD monitors.

I did receive e-mail comments from one kind fellow who was having problems with some of the thumbnail images loading properly. Has that happened to anyone else?

As for printing the text pages out, I hadn't thought of that. But, if you set your browser to not print the background (some browsers have this option) then you will get black text on white paper.

If you go and look again, you will probably need to refresh the pages you've seen before for the changes to be apparent.

What I've learned: photography is more fun than web work...

Kerik,

I just went back to your site with the new changes and it is now much easier to read and also with the background not as dark your images look alive and really nice, not so dark and dingy as with the darker background.

I guess the background color is what made everything seem so dark.

It now really looks a heck of a lot better and reading the text is no longer an issue.

Thanks, Kevin. I'm glad that made the difference.

Very nice Web site Kerik, Photos are beautiful on my monitor.
Your work inspired me to try my hands on Palladium printing (Work in progress)
Hope to attend one of your workshops when i get a little experience.

Kerik,
As for the overall look of the site, it is very nice, easy to read and appropriate.

I am on a cable hookup so everything loads very quickly. The one exception is the Simple Viewer. When I attempt to load it the address can not be found by my browser. I assume its use is to be able to see the beautiful images larger. That would really be nice, in fact, I think it is necessary.

Jim

Kerik,
I checked the SImple Viewer using Firefox, and it works very well. It does not come up using SeaMonkey.
Jim

Thanks for the additional comments, all. Jim - the "simpleviewer" icon is a link that's supposed to take you to their website. The price you pay for a free viewer... It's not intended to make the images larger. I chose to keep them this size for a variety of reasons. I've never even heard of Sea Monkey...

Jon - I've noticed the orange links are a little much on some monitors, but if you click on them the become a nice, gentle light gray... I'll probably play with some other colors and find something a little less loud for the links.
