I'm looking for a host for my website, but it seems that a lot of the popular shared hosts have usage policies that forbid nudity of any form, artistic or otherwise. That would tie my hands in a way I want to avoid.

Can anyone recommend a hosting service that allows nudity in the context of art? What are you using?

I know this question is close to the d-word, but with it being standard practice lately for photographers and artists to hang their shingles out on the web, this seemed a pretty apt marketing question that many of us will have to deal with.

How about sponsoring APUG's web hosting site? I saw the add for it somewhere on these pages...

I am pretty sure that Sean is okay with this on Dead Link Removed. I have a couple of accounts there and the price is okay, plus the money helps support APUG. If your site is too big for that, I have also used realwebhost.net and been happy. If you sign up for realwebhost, go to APUGHOSTING.ORG and click the link there, that way APUG gets a kickback.

We also allow nudity in the art sense with my hosting service. Besides doing screens, we also own a webhosting and design company, if Seans service does not work for you.

Just checking out RealWebHost - they also have the dreaded nudity clause. Maybe Sean is getting away with it since he is renting an entire server.

I really wonder how many of these "no nudity" clauses are strictly enforced and how many are just there as a bit of CYA so that it's easy to shut down a site that gets out of hand.

If they have it in their terms of agreement and someone complains, they do enforce it, they have to because of the COPA laws in the US, as a photographers as well as a big game hunter, that is why I got my own servers, that way I don't have to deal with it and can set my terms of agreement, its not a law you want to mess with, I have seen many not only get websites shut down, but have been subject to prosucution because of it..If I was you, I would email Sean and ask him about the policies in force that he may or may not be constrained by.
