As of 7 PM, we are approaching 14 inches and no sign of it letting up, it's not supposed to stop until early Thursday morning.

My wife's family lives around NYC, Maryland, Philadelphia, NJ. We were out a few years ago in NYC, we actually picked up a rental car in Manhattan. Over the time we stayed, blizzard hit about a foot of snow. Total gridlock, but I didn't see people getting freaked out. I've driven in the city, in good weather never had any real problems. You need to stay alert and make sure you don't block traffic.

In northern Virginia, the forecast of snow causes all stores to be emptied of white bread, milk, eggs and toilet paper [must be some pagan rite that causes great gastric distress, IDK] and the minimum acceptable speed on any paved road regardless of width, traffic or weather conditions is 70 miles per hour and driven with the look of horror in ones eyes and a death grip on the steering wheel.

I live in Alexandria, and this is so true. The toilet paper hoarding is just in case the snow doesn't melt before August.

What amazes me is the toilet paper thing. I can understand, families with kids. You would think that there was a war coming

Well, I always figured if you binge ate all that white bread, milk and eggs, you'd get the plops, so the toilet paper somehow makes sense...

I have a cousin in Rochester, NY, when they get notice of impending storms she runs to the store and stocks up with beer, wine, shrimp, and TP.

It's been a busy morning digging out from the 22 inches(more in the drifts). Lost out flag to the wind, the mail box to the snow plow. I found the mail box and repaired/re mounted it, still can't find the flag. Still snowing lightly with flurries predicted for the afternoon. The main highway (Rt 31) was closed last night, we live at the top of Three Mile Hill, plows and sanders couldn't keep up with the snow and it got greasy.

We got 1.75" of rain the last 24 hours -- came down heavy at times, but generally well spread out. We have had a little rain here and there since the fires. Enough to get the ground wet and ready for this rain. Also leaves have had time to fall to help reduce raindrop impact. I'll check the river out here soon to see how much it has come up and see what king of sediment load it is carrying. Most of the fire was in the upper watershed above Ruth Lake/dam.

In Rochester when it snows stop signs and traffic lights are merely advisory.

RickA and others in possibly heavy snow: power outage fears?

Stay safe, do check your outside heating exhaust vents.

Zero snow but windy as heck out here.

About 13 inches fell starting last night here. That's the official tally, I think it's closer to 18 inches. More on the way...

When I lived and worked in Rochester New York, I would not put up with people who complained about snow. I would tell them that the snow added to the water table and gave them the fantastic springs with the flowers the practically exploded on the bushes. Besides they choose to live there and they had decades to get jobs elsewhere and leave if they really wanted to. The truth was that they choose to live there and they love to live there but they love to gripe more.

Winds, but less than 25mph. A little wet with an inch promised this afternoon. Temperatures in the high 50s. Even a little sun coming through occasionally.

Merry Christmas! It's Winter!

Very high winds with a temperature at 60F which is unheard of this time of year. Power outages predicted because of the wind but so far, so good.

Christmas eve, 49 and rain. Most of the snow up here melted. This morning (Christmas day) 4+ inches of fresh white precip. and 20 degrees, snowing throughout the day. We now have over 6 inches accumulated.

Unlimited water supply. Hear that west coast? We will never ever ever have a water shortage. It's worth putting up with six months of no sun to have that safeguard. Global warming? Lets have some. Climate is no issue here, some snow and that's it. No earthquakes, tornadoes, tidlewaves, landslides, flashfloods. Just some snow and cold. The rest of the world will figure it out at some point and they'll move back. Yeah...some day.

The surplus water could be piped across the company. We do not have the steel gray skies, tornadoes, hurricanes, rust belt deserted crumbling factories with bricked in windows, deserted houses ... Why did George Eastman start Eastman Kodak in Rochester New York? Rochester is the world's largest natural dark room and the skies are always 18% Neutral Gray. Of course we have to put up with clear blue skies either no clouds or with nice white clouds every day. Tough life but someone has to live it.
