It is raining! It is raining!

And lots and lots of wind! Gusts of 115 on a peak above Castaic along I-5. I wouldn't have wanted to be driving that section!
Gusts over 60 in Beverly Hills. If I'd known that I would have gone over there to catch some money as it blew by...

Highly unusual. In the neighborhood where I used to live, in Venice, there were four palm trees at each intersection corner - I thought they were at least 60' tall, just a long tall trunk and fronds hanging down from the top crown. Well, we'd sometimes get the warm Santa Ana winds coming through at 30-35mph and those trees would really sway. I thought one of those trees would snap some day. They never did.

They never will. Palms aren't actually trees- they're related to grasses. Very fibrous. We have a lot of those Mexican fan palms (tall, with a skinny trunk), and they bend and sway like crazy under the Santa Anas without a problem. They generally have a bit of a lean to them due to the prevailing wind from the west, and that being opposite to the direction of the Santa Anas probably helps them, too. Out here, the Santa Anas can have gusts of 50 mph or more.

Taken 15 minutes ago just down the street. Winds are 10-15 mph. Yes, taken with a digital, so avert your eyes if you need to.

Thanks - love it. The tall palms and the Eucalyptus trees at UCLA are what I miss the most of my birthplace... and the warm winter weather. Not enough to make me ever go back though.

My flight from LA yesterday made an "unexpected stop" in Salt Lake for a "flight crew adjustment." As such, I missed my connection in Minneapolis and spent the afternoon there. Got into Pittsburgh at 11PM with a message from my wife saying she couldn't get to the airport. Had to rent an SUV to get home, and the roads were awful.

Well! Now we know what that ambiguously worded "flight crew adjustment" was about! Sheesh! You miss a lot sitting in the back of the plane...

Wohhh...

Anyway, back to the weather... After three fairly calm days, we've rain. Not a major rain system, but up to 1/2" later in the day today (it's now the 3rd here). Should be showers and sunbreaks tom'w, then more rain Friday into Sat. morning. Next week, probably foggy in the lowlands, and above 800' or so, sunny. Yup, typical temperature inversion for the PacNW during an El Niño winter.

Bradley, don't be surprised if your sis decides to visit you to see the sun...

it has been unseasonably warm lately, but we usually have a january thaw for a few weeks where
the cold snap warms up. im not sure if i am going to believe phil, its been like this before, and then snowed and snowed and snowed ...
for 6weeks, currently it is kind of cloudy, the treetops are on fire with sunlight and 36ºF

those trees remind me of a "gun club" album ( miami ) thanks for reminding me to listen to some music

66F at 4:30 AM and 83F forecast for today. I hope winter hasn't decided it's over...

I have a bad feeling that Winter came and went here in So. Cal. At least one month of winter is better than none. 90 deg. F yesterday 87 deg. today low humidity .

Light rain after two glorious (and photographically very productive) days of sunshine. Since all my color film is 100 ISO (E100G/VS), it looks like back to black and white for a few days (one of the F2AS bodies is loaded with TMax3200). Chinese New Years' festivities on the weekend, so hopefully a break from the rain by Saturday ( I don't know that black and white would/could capture the festivities quite as well as color would). Fingers are crossed...

Boring blue sky, no clouds, short sleeve shirt weather.

A brief moment of sunshine this am before the clouds returned. Forecast is for rain for most of the next week, but conditions can and do change quite frequently here. Fingers are still crossed for the sun to put in an appearance on Sunday for the Chinese New Years' Parade in downtown Vancouver. If not, then I guess I'll be shooting with either the shorter Nikkors (<85mm) or else opt for the Leicas if I decide to stick with my plans to shoot color (oh, to have some 400 ISO Ektachrome or Provia). If the light is insufficient for color (E100G/VS) then it's a Tri-X day with a couple of Nikons...

Wx is +2C and rain. The days are still too overcast for photography...

80 degrees F in Brawley California
Sunny blue sky, no clouds, boring

A crisp -28C this morning. Winds making it feel closer to -40C. Not a day for outdoor shooting!

Occasional sightings of Mr Blue Sky...

Rainy, dull, flat lighting...so, out came the expired TMax 3200! Hopefully a break tomorrow for the Chinese New Years' parade; but if not, I'll be breaking out the Gore-tex and bringing along a towel to keep the F5, F3P and the M6 dry.
