Weather where you are

Snowing, cold, and windy here in Central Illinois. Doesn't hold a candle to the Blizzard of '79 though. Schools in the area are slowly making up their minds whether to close tomorrow or not.

One of my cousins shared this video with me. I wish our school administrators were as creative as these guys with their school closing announcements.

You know what's really hard when it's this hot? Developing. I measured the 'cold' water out of my taps at 26.5C, and I was out of ice cubes. Had to put my dev in the fridge just to get it down to 24C and at least I was somewhere on the time/temp chart...

And 40's again this weekend. Its driving me batty.

I actually don't bother with developing or printing when its this hot. I find its too much messing around to get everything to my liking. Surely we are going to get a milder weekend sometime soon?

Woke up to 15 inches of fresh white this morning, it turned to freezing rain around 8am, what a frican mess.

The Winter in the U.K hasn't been too bad so far this year in the U.K, it had rained a lot and some areas have had extensive and serious flooding, but the temperatures haven't been very cold, and there so far hasn't been any snow, so if it continues like this for another six weeks or so and we're out of the woods .

We got snow last night, too, but no rain (too cold). I can't tell how much 'cause it's blown and blowing way too much. I can see the grass in many areas and then 3 foot high drifts elsewhere. And, yes, the deepest drifts look to be in the driveway - I'm hoping they blow off some before I have to drive out this afternoon.

I just want a cool weekend so I can get up in my roof and install one of those whirly-bird thingies to get some of the heat out of the cavity. But when it's 40C outside, it's 60C in the roof, so I can't get in there.

Good point, if all photographers in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere hold their cameras upside down, will this cause a reverse in magnetic polarity?

Snow, then Ice last night, snow today. a lovely slippery sandwich. Cold spell coming, then more of the same for the week end. theory once expounded to me was that the Ohio River valley is like the gutter on a bowling lane. Once a storm finds its way into the valley it follows the river all the way to Pittsburgh.

I saw an Australian movie on Hulu. A very violent one about a man getting revenge on the people responsible for the death of his daughter. Anyway, I noticed that they drive on the wrong side of the road in Australia too. I thought only England and Japan did that.

No, it's the EU and US that are on the wrong side.

Meanwhile, if you want a great touristy movie to encourage you to visit, I'd suggest finding the movie Snowtown. Then realise it's a true story. Then realise that I work with the son of the Detective in charge of the operation, who's said that the movie just scratches the surface of what actually happened...

We had quite a bit of snow in the Cleveland area, though I've driven in worse. I managed to blast out of the driveway, and on the freeway hit 50mph until I caught up with the people who were to afraid to be on the road. Took two hours to make a 24 minute drive... because of the idiots on the road.

I work at a university, and when the skies and roads are clear, but the temperature is below zero, they close. When the temps are above zero but the roads are dangerous, they stay open. Go figure.

Fortunately, they let us go at 3:00 today. When I got home I tried to blast in the drive (with a running start) but got stuck; and it's a full-sized car. At least I was out of the street. Got out the snow blower, and then pulled the rest of the way in. By the time I was done, it was the time I'd normally have gotten home, so I gained nothing. Oh well.

The NWS gridded forecast for my exact house location is calling for +9F tonight. And with ~20-mph winds that works out to about -10F wind chill.
