Supposed to be 82F here today, and we had a 4.5 earthquake close by at 1:36 AM. Ho-humm. :whistling:

Damn. Was just about to pack up again and go to the beach to try get some thunderstorm-cloud shots.
Just as I opened the door the first wind gust hit. A few 30-knot gusts later and the temperature dropped 7 degrees in half an hour. Tomorrow's maximum is going to be lower than last nights minimum.
temp.png sums it all up really.
Don't think my tripod's really up to that much (or maybe i'm overcautious), and I think the stormclouds are already overhead. So staying in tonight by the looks.

Just hope my friends out there fighting the bushfires are ok, wind gusts are not what they want right now.
I know there's a few around here from around the Grampians, hope you're all doing ok too...

Too bad we can't export rain-otherwise our economy would be booming!

Northern California here. Constantly dry. We've only had 1 significant day of rain this season and presently it's about 20C which is completely unheard of in January.

Driest year on record, since records were kept. Not what we want or need, rationing of water is imminent. Give us 10C less and rain/snow, please!

Yes. Record warm temps every day (not hot, and actually wonderfully comfortable later in the day), and our ordinarily damp Jan conditions are
bone dry. The color in the local hills is stunning. Almost no green, and no tall dry grass either, so exquisitely subtle tans, greiges, and golds - all kinds of wonderful earthtones of the underlying sandstone soils becoming visible in midday light, if one knows where to look. And almost no wind. So I just had to get out last weekend and take a couple of 8x10 Ektar shots. And it looks like more of the same this coming weekend. But I'm sure the inevitable water rationing is going to make me switch to color printing sooner in the season than normal, because fiber-based black and white work uses a lot of wash water.

OMG! Before any snow showed up the people here were already in full panic mode. Their eyes were filled with tears the size of horse turds. At 4:30 AM I checked the website and saw that the office was closed due to impending snow. At 4:45 in the morning I was called by an robo caller and told not to go to work. It is now after 3 PM and there is less than an inch of snow on the sidewalks and roads. Oh the humanity of it! My heart is palpitating!

here in Calgary, we do have four season or rather 3 season in just one week; fresh snow delivery every other week, some days we have day and night temp fluctuation of around +- 25 deg, all you have to do if you don't like the current weather is to wait sometimes hours, sometimes minutes:D

All over the place here. It was sunny and warm yesterday, hard to believe its still January. Normal business resumed today though, back to rain and cold wind.

Calgary get warm right after a snow storm and is quite liveable. Unlike Edmonton which gets below freezing in September [or end of August] and stays cold until June.

In VA? I'd believe that. Even western PA can be close to that bad.

Yesterday at 3pm it was 47 F. At 11pm, it was 14 F. This morning, 0 F. Now, it's about 15, but feels much colder, even without wind. If it would stop bouncing up and down, it would be easier to get used to it. It was in the 50s on Sunday.

But the winter light here, even at noon, is really nice when it's not too cloudy. The sun doesn't get above 45 degrees, I think. Your subject just has to be facing the right way.

Now Bethe, the sun's temperature is not affected by our weather here on Earth.

Lake Erie

Cold enough and long enough this winter that the Great Lakes are 60% ice covered. That's good news!
Yes - Lake Erie used to ice up all the time, but not so often the past 15 years or so. Then again, when it ices like this, there is always somebody losing a pickup truck in it.

I'm missing my home in NY for a lot of reasons, but not for the weather where it's 9 degrees just now and snowing. Here in Jacksonville, it has been 70, but will drop to 30 tonight. A 40 degree change is just plain weird!

Snowstorm in Philly. 11 inches have fallen and snow is slowing down. City office and schools are closed tomorrow. Cold, cold weather coming for a few days.
