I have had a few outages today, when APUG went off-line. Last one right now for like 5-10 minutes. Can't tell if it is a DNS issue or what it might have been. Same speed overall as earlier.

It is possible some people are using a proxy or other gateway that has not updated it's cache for apug's new ip address. When you ping apug you should return an ip address of: 72.32.121.187

At the moment I have full monitoring of the server by rackspace plus I also have a 3rd party service monitoring specific apug.org web pages from 7 different global positions. I've had no reports of any outages since the migration. This leads me to believe that a few people may be experiencing local issues. If anyone experiences problems keep letting me know. For those who can't see this message hopefully you'll find a way to email me..

Did a ping towards www.apug.org and got the ip address given, with a median access of 131 ms with a 32 byte packets (which probably is too small to give any idea of performance). Probably something local, on my side then.

I have been unable to log on since about 11:00 am BST today and have just managed it now. So my lack of access has lasted over 12 hours. I haven't seen mention of a problem today let alone one lasting 12 hours.

Is it only my problem? Have any other UK APUGers had this problem?

I found the issue:

Our old host disabled our port forwarding which was allowing us to redirect people to the new server as dns updated globally (i'm guessing he did not like us doing this). Most of the globe has updated our dns already but a few places have not. When they turned off the forwarding some could no longer get to the site. Those who regained access have done so because the dns in their region has updated. A bit of a hiccup but could have been worse. Everyone's DNS should be updated by now or very close to an update.

Thanks,
Sean

Yes, APUG was just down for me pretty much all day for me as well (Eastern time). I figured it was the server conversion and it's been working fine for me now, fast as lightning.

I couldn't get on at all yesterday. First a blank page, then a page with an error message (104 if I remember correctly).

I just got on, and haven't noted any speed differences.

Something else I have just noticed. I couldn't help feeling that on the opening page something was different. It has just struck me. I am sure that there was always the latest gallery photo there but there's nothing now although I have full access to the galleries.

Is this something waiting to be restored?

APUG and the Twilight Zone

I couldn't access the site for most of yesterday.

For a small part of yesterday though, I was obviously accessing the old server. The list of members online had just 6 or 7 names, there were no new posts, and the most recent posts on any of the threads were from the day before yesterday. I assumed that it was one of three things:

1) it was just something that was happening as a result of the server migration, or
2) I was caught in a Twilight Zone episode, APUG style, or
3) a plot had been hatched to hide APUG from Marko when he returned from holidays, and no one thought to tell me of the secret new APUG website address  .

Glad it turned out to be #1.

That piece is still broken, but I imagine Sean will have it fixed shortly.

it was just the dns had not updated globally yet. Your isp was probably sending you to a half dead server most of the day. We should be 100% now.

-still working on the recent gallery pic issue.

Performance could be better but I am in the process of having the server tuned. Also it does not help that we are on a very old version of vBulletin that has become bloated. When we upgrade to the latest version we should get a bump in performance there.

I am having trouble with the spell checker.
I am using Firefox with APUG as a trusted/popup allowed site so it sould work.

Nice transition between servers Sean, our IT department is jealous.

that's odd, working fine for me on firefox. Maybe disable all your firefox security and any security apps on the pc to see if that allows it to work -just so we know, then we can look at which app is blocking it..

by the way, the current apug site is in bad shape, very bloated. I did some testing and our page creation times were 0.75seconds. To give you an idea, the new version I am working on has a page creation time of 0.08 seconds. Gotta get this site upgraded asap. Will keep you posted..

This is the error I get using IE6.0.2900 (see attached ei6Error.jpg)

This is the error I get in Firefox

Error: LinkToField has no properties
Source File: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)
Line: 42

and this is what it looks like (see attached FfoxError.jpg)

I was getting the same messages on my work PCs. I am running XP pro sp2 with all latest updates on both PCs. My Mac G4 is down right now so I can't check it with that, but will soon.

Spellcheck works fine in Opera version 9.01 on the PC whose results I posted earlier.
Wrong versions of IE(6.0.2900) and Firefox(1.5.0.6)?

I have had a few people with spellcheck issues. I might leave it since the entire system is going to be upgraded this weekend and a new spellcheck system will be in place.

It looks like the code for determing browser type is old; it uses a hack for determing the IE browser type.

Sean,

Thanks for getting the Newest Gallery Photo thumbnail to post.

Rich

For me, the Newest Gallery Photo thumbnail is still missing.

I normally use Firefox (version 1.05.06) but I checked and found the same in I.E. 6.

I tried logging out to clear cookies, but it didn't make any difference.
