I was framing a print for a friend of mine which I have enlarged and toned exactly to my liking and decided to spot out one little white spot in a shadow area. I foolishly used a damp paper towel to blot any ink that was stray off and now have left a fairly large, half dollar size or so darker spot in that area. I figured it was just from the water and just framed it thinking it would probably dry. Well it's still there now!

Is there anything I could do to remove this darker area, or should I just get back out there and make another print?

You could try washing again. If the blob is spotting ink and it is water-soluble, that may help (best is always to use too little ink or dye, then add to it). If the spot is swollen emulsion from the damp patch then it may also help, by swelling the rest of the emulsion too before you dry it all simultaneously. The results depend on the cause of what you are seeing of course, so worth a try but don't be too surprised to find yourself making another print . . . Good luck!
