Warsaw, Poland - convert old nikkor to AI

Hi,

anyone knows some place in Warsaw where I can convert old non AI nikkor to AI? I both one micro nikkor 55mm f3.5. I have F3, so I can use it, but I would like to convert it to AI.

I live in Warsaw at a moment, but I am not from Poland, so...

It is still on
B&W films and papers are pretty cheap there. But my Polish is not so good, and there people usually don't speak English. Maybe I will try to ask someone there also, if I hear that someone speaks English...

Am I right in thinking you can mount the lens, but have to move the meter coupling pin out of the way because it catches on the aperture ring?

If you want to use the Micro-Nikkor on your F3 with metering, you can remove the aperture ring from the lens and cut the aluminium so that the aperture ring catches the pin in the meter coupling ring around the lens throat when it's down.

It sounds harder than it is, you just have to make sure you cut the ring in the right place (relative to the maximum aperture). If memory serves, you can check with another 3.5 lens as the notch will be in the same place, effectively it's telling the meter that an f3.5 is fitted.

You are right
I can mount non AI lens on F3 (putting pin out), and it gives metering for max open aperture, so I must calculate for other f stops and manually adjust shutter speed.

I have no tools to cut aluminium, and I am not sure in myself to do this anyway, so I would like to give this job to some expert.

All you need is a hacksaw blade to cut one milimetre into the ring and use a file to take out around 3cm towards the f22 mark. What it does is effectively add an AI ring/notch to your lens to catch the meter pin.

It's not hard, but you need to have the confidence and not worry too much if you damage the ring.
