I use Kentmere Fineprint VC because of the bright white base, unlike Ilford MGIV, which is obvious when compared side by side. I recently tried Ilford MGIV Warmtone, which has a cream colored base. I assumed all warmtone papers had that cream base. I just tried Kentmere Kentona, and much to my surprise, it has a white base. I personally prefer this. Kentona is going away, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of another warmtone paper that has a white base. Graded or VC is not an issue for me. I'd rather not buy a bunch of 25 sheet boxes find out for myself. I'd rather use the money to help stock up on Kentona if that's what I need to do. Thanks in advance for sharing any knowledge you may have.

There are some very nice (and new!) papers made by Adox that are nicely warm toned with a white base. I love the Adox Variotone WT, it's engineered for toners, and it's lovely after going through a simple bath of selenium... in fact, it's warm with a white base even without the toning. Adox has also come up with a replacement for Agfa's MCC111, which was a great slightly warm toned paper with white base. I'm not sure where you are, but the Adox papers are available through Freestyle.

Sorry, I suspected this might have already been addressed. I started reading the responses, and realized that I have a different perception of what white is. As far as I'm concerned, MGIV, whether warmtone or not, is nowhere near white. It's very obvious to me when compared to Fineprint VC, Bromide or Kentona. Interestingly, my box of Kentona came with an Adox datasheet, not a Kentona datasheet. I just got my new stock of Fineprint VC, and they have a Harmon sticker on them. I'm very nervous about opening them, because I'm afraid I'm going to end up with MGIV as far as the base is concerned. Hopefully not. Anyway, I'll try the Adox.

One thing about the Ilford Warmtone is, if you leave it in water too long the optical brighteners wash out and the paper turns more warm. try washing according to the recommendations with the paper and see if that helps. I used Oriental paper for quite some time and they recommend washing for 45 minutes if you use hypo clearing, if you was the Ilford that long you also get the cream colored base.

I've ordered the Adox. BTW, the HARMON version of Fineprint VC still has a brilliant white base. I'm happy.

Adox warmtone definitely does not lith well.....to my disappointment. It is a lovely paper that tones well, though...and it has a wonderful white base

I happen to like warm tone papers with a white base which split-tone to eggplant low tones and mushroom highlights. Will Adox have this split-tone look?
