I am looking for a warm tone paper similar to Ilford's Warm Tone VC toned with Se that will provide a brownish shade using Dektol or D-73 print developer but with a faster speed (if such a paper exits).
I am open to recommendations of other warm tone paper preferred by APUGERs.

Why not Ilford Warmtone ?

I've been using the semi-matte fiber in dektol and I get a great color without toning.

If you are using Ilford warm tone now, try it in Zonal Pro warmtone developer. I usually just add some bromide to the Dektol if I want to warm it up a little.

I'm a fan of the J&C Polywarmtone paper if you haven't given that one a shot yet. Have not tried it out in the developers you mention, though.

And, it just happens to be on sale right now!

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I just bought some, the sale prices are extremely good. I understand that it is Forte Polywarmtone.

Paul.

Not familiar with this paper. Who really manufactures it? Does it require any special developers to get a nice warm tone?

It's manufactured by Forte. I have used it with both Ansco 130 and Dektol--both gave warm tones.

Thanks Paul. Forte Polywarm tone? With an Ivory paper color?
Now I think I remember. Isn't it on a white base? They seem to advertise it fori its clean highlights.

Ok, I see form J&C that it is also available in a white base. I think I'll try some.
Thanks all,

I was also going to recomemend Forte PW+, it is great stuff and the tone is very adjustable with varying developers.

But what exactly is this "J and C Classic" Polywarmtone. Is it a store brand, and actually packaged as J and C paper?

If you think Ilford is slow better avoid Polywarmtone. It's a very slow paper. I've never done any speed comparisons but you might try Oriental Warmtone VC. Insignia is gone. It was a graded warmtone paper on a white base. Agfa does have Multigrade Classic. Not bad in speed and warm in Agfa Neutol WA. Whiter base than Ilford Warmtone.

How does it work with Selectol (D-52) or the other warm tone developers? I know most warm tone papers are quite sensitive to the developer used. This may be another variable that Hortense should try to get the tone needed.

Has anyone tested to see if the J and C is the same emulsion as the Forte Polywarmtone product? If it is, I can comment some on it. i didnt like the look with warmtone developers on Forte, all of my efforts went towards getting it as close to neutral as I could. Neutol WA looked over the top yucky green to me, YMMV. I got the best warm brown tone for my tastes using a phenidone-glycin developer. BUt this was the Forte paper, and i didnt do a lot of toning in my tests so YMMV. I loved the paper though as someone else said it definitely is not fast.

I just read on another site that the J and C is backordered for 4-6 weeks.

Or you can just go directly to their website and see that it is all in stock.

Yeah, a commercial website has never been wrong. I'm just the messenger, someone said today that J and C emailed them and said it would be out of stock 4-6 weeks. People on Usenet lie too though, I was just passing the news/rumor along.

I just got my J&C warmtone today and printed a couple of negs with it in 8X10 and 11X14. I absolutely love the tone. The base is whiter than Ilfords and it took selenium very nicely. It also seemed only a little slower than normal Forte VC and the speed was just fine for my work flow. The prints are at the darkroom on racks, but I will try to get a scan tomorrow.

We have plenty of Polywarmtone 8x10, 11x14 and 12x16. In fact it's on sale as listed on this thread.

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

We have sold out all sizes of the Polygrade neutral tone except for 8x10 due to more demand than we expected for this paper. This paper will be back in 4-6 weeks. Perhaps this is where the confusion comes from.

Excellent, because I would like to buy some-can you comment on whether its the same emulsion as the Forte Polywarmtone?

Thanks. I know the website "pretty much" said it, that why I wanted to make sure.
