The excitement is the most important ingredient!

I just wanted to make sure that it didn't get derailed by frustration.

If you have a choice of 50mm lenses, it might help to be aware that some project back farther into the bellows than others, and therefore wouldn't be the best to use.

And if you normally use the masking attachment with the enlarger, it helps if you take it out.

Have fun!

Thanks, the school enlargers are all essentially then same and the lenses are all standard Scheider Rodagon (or is it Rodinar?), save a few odds and ends like the ones I prefer (EL-Nikkor)

I won't know till I try! It's not the first thing on my list and I can't try till I get the carrier in the mail

It is Rodagon and Rogonar, and they are from Rodenstock.

(Too many names around, I got confused for a moment myself.)

Thinking I should have also asked if they made a 4x4 carrier did 127 film...?

I found one for slides but it's a pain as its inset and you need two sets in order to sandwich the film properly.

Did they make a proper non-slide version?

I've got a pile of NOS carriers from a local photo store. They made all kinds of unusual sizes. I know I have some submini and maybe 110 and 127, but have some Omega and more in Beseler - I need to sort them out and see what I actually have. I may have gotten rid of some. I also have the short Componon in recessed mount for Beseler, plus the short Rokkor that is supposed to be especially nice, but haven't seen the Rokkor for a while. I'm pretty much sticking with 35mm so should probably trade some of this off for something I have more use for.

From your friends at KHB, the source of all sorts of Omega enlarger stuff: http://www.khbphotografix.com/omega/Current/D5.htm#Carriers

Wow they have x-pan size too!!! I think that will fit my Mamiya panoramic adapter images perhaps?

And 70mm too!!! Cool! I wonder how much brand new carriers cost though :/

Thanks, someone was kind enough to send me a 110 so I'm no longer looking for one, however the school I'm in doesn't have one so I can always just donate one so they have it (and I don't have to carry mine in every time). With the Lomo film, I'm sure other students might use it someday.

As for the lens, sure, it could make my life easier. I didn't have time to test the 50mm today I'll have to try and find time tomorrow to see if it can work but I would think it should still be ok, but smaller lens is probably best for the smaller format.

If you have extra panoramic or 70mm holders or 127 (4x4) that would be great.

I may have some extra 35mm ones if you want more than one, I don't have any good lenses for enlarging that I can trade, just a Beseler and some "U-lucky" or something 75mm that I was going to give away to one of the students.

Just for clarity, that link is a reference link, not a catalogue of items available for sale.

They do have a lot of stuff for sale though, its just that it changes, and it usually isn't inexpensive.

KHB are very helpful with information on almost all enlarger related questions.

Okay guys I take it back, unfortunately very very kind gentleman who sent me the carrier, has sent the wrong size carrier, I thought this might happen, I received the 16mm movie film frame version of 16 mm, which is much smaller than the 110 which is horizontal. I'll take a picture to show you.

*sigh*

So, Mark Crabtree, if you wouldn't mind seeing if you do in fact have a 110 carrier that would be amazing.

See if it measures 8mm x 10mm, if so, that's a Minox frame. Go get a Minox!

Haa you are right, the orientation is wrong for Minox, which is what I have...

Must be 16mm movie single.

You could hack at it to make the 110 opening, if the film doesn't sit nicely in the orientation of your photo, you might plan the opening to orient it 90-degrees from "normal" Omega orientation.

Will that fit 35mm film sideways? You might cut a "Half-Frame" carrier from this... and then just use paper masks for 110.

I notice that Lomo exposes a "mask" into the negative. That means you can cut the opening wider than the actual frame, and allow the film mask be the edge of the print. In other words, you can be sloppy with the file... and still get sharp (or slightly soft, but still well-defined) borders on your prints.

The smaller of the two holes is 8x11 technically, so I guess yes that's minox?

For future searches on this thread...

"The Minox cameras project an image of 8x11 mm onto the negative."

Right Ken Nadvornick... 8x11mm - confirmed by measuring some frames of my own Minox negatives.

That's the gripe I have with all Omega negative carriers, they always crop. I will have to file my Minox carrier 1mm before I can use it, since it measures 8x10mm.

Really? All the carriers except the 4x5 carrier seem to NOT crop, but the 35mm and 120 don't seem to crop the frame at all. I know there measurements may have changed over time?

It is annoying just how much is cropped by the 4x5 but I suppose that little edge might cause sagging issues which is worse than edge crop.

ANYWAY, still in need of a 110 frame.

Yes j can make masks from paper but then fibers get on the film and this tiny format suffers greatly from fibers/dust particles...

Think the pre exposed mask was normal wayback. They have the old machinery.

Well I made a mask and printed some with the 50mm lens which was fine except for long print times so I used the cool tone FB paper that's similar to RC, I made 8x10's without any issues with the 50mm lens, on the long neck omega I could make 11x14's
