Who in this thread is "trying to transform Wal-Mart?" Wal-Mart is what it is. Even if any one of use wanted to "transform" the largest retailer in the world I don't think even collectively we have the knowledge nor resources to accomplish such a task.
Did you run a pro lab or speak to the owner of a pro lab recently? My local pro shop owner told me a very different story. He points the finger directly at digital. He never mentioned Walmart. As far as I know send out services of all kinds have existed my entire lifetime. For most of their existence they coexisted quite happily with pro labs. I frankly use both. If a pro uses Walmart for their film developing they deserve to go out of business. That would be insane. I can't imagine anyone that values their professional reputation doing that.
I've never seen anyone on this forum make such a claim. Please post a link to the source of this claim so we can get in on that deal. The cheapest I've found is $4.88 (plus tax) for 220 roll of E-6. Sadly I can no longer obtain 220 rolls of E-6 at reasonable prices so the best I can muster at the moment is $4.88 (plus tax) roll for 120 E-6.
Well here's one example... I am still looking for the one I found that said .88 cents but he literally posted his receipt image so it wasn't even made up .... but here's another one that's close... (EDIT at sams club) last post...

Oh here... this APUG guy said .84 cents...
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)
Who knows... its certainly not my walmart.... lol
So, the company that helped shut down the pro labs is now charging more than the pro labs that no longer exist? I feel so sorry for you guys.
I believe $0.84 is for one roll of C-41 120 films. One roll of E6 120 films is $4.88.
Yes, they do. I did 120 C-41 through Walmart sendout several times (as late as mid. Feb. this year).... if they actually sent you your film back... lol

You Jobo because prices might go up?! Isn't a new Jobo $3,000?!
StoneNYC;1485379 That's it... NEVER have them scan images or print film ... they are just awful at it... .[/QUOTE said:I do not know about you but I use Dwaynes to develop my Kodak Portra 135 and get a CD with processing. It is ALWAYS good. They only charge $2.99 for the CD and it is higher resolution (2000 x 3000) than most labs give you unless you pay a lot more for the upgrade to high resolution scan.
I have used them to scan slides but I did not think they came out too good. Perhaps it is just the fact I use Kodak Portra that scans better.
A thing I never understood is why labs mostly give out such low resolutions scans on their basic CD. They are most often 1000 x 1500 and the lab calls them 4.5 MP scans. They are 4.5 when open in Photoshop but I would call then 1.5 MP scans. It is nice the Dwaynes gives you the higher resolution scan for a nice low price.

They must have improved, my only scans from them are Kodachrome and they were a total disservice to that film,
Perhaps the machine they use for C-41 is newer or they've upgraded

Ok just going by the label on the send out envelope, freaks me out lol
Getting a used Jobo machine (1000-1500$ with tanks/shipping, sometimes much less), and bulk chemicals, makes it pay for it self after the first 100 rolls or less.
After that, costs are under 1$ for C-41, 1-2$ for E-6 (depending on material) and 0.01-1$ for BW.
The problem is you misinterpreted what various people across the internet were saying and then made a statement about 88¢ E-6. Now someone else is going to see your post and go on a wild goose chase looking for something that, in my experience, does not exist....
I hate C-41 but that price is hard to pass up.
Anyway, I pay $4.50 for C-41 120 so $1 for them would B&W awesome regardless.
Anyway, $4.50 for C-41 120 is not bad either, in particular if Walmart/Fuji sendout service does hike the price.
So where do you get the price? Thanks!

The only thing not calculated here, is the time you spend processing your own rolls, but the fun ans fulfillment factors balance that out.
There is no wait, you can have same day service, and not have to pay extra to push or pull your films
Well, CatLABS answered it all for me
I Jobo because even *before* these possible price increases, it was by far the cheapest way to develop E6 (which is what I shoot 80% of the time).
In fact I was given boxes of E6 chemicals (replenishers, starters, etc.) from a lab up in New Hampshire that went digital a couple years ago for FREE. So ever since them, my per roll developing costs for E6 has been right around $0. I know, not a typical scenario, but still.
Also, I think the biggest reward is not having to wait for the film to return. That was really the most painful thing about shipping film off to Dwayne's... the 2-week or so turnaround
I've never seen any of those machines how big are they and is the $1,000 new or used price?
How often do you process? Do you sometimes do just one roll or save up till you have a certain number of rolls. I'm completely new to any kind of home machine so "speak" slowly... Lol

I have a CPE2, which I believe to be the same size as a CPP2.
The CPE2 is about half the size of the CPP2.
We have an informational article about the different Jobo processors here:
http://www.catlabs.info/how-to-choose-the-right-jobo-processor
You can get in at way under a 1000$ including everything you need, and chemistry to last a LONG time and MANY rolls.
Another great thing about Jobo (or all home processing) is that you can ran as little as one roll with no waste of chemistry, or run 10 rolls at once to save time.
Champion chemistry (C-41 only at this time), though sold in bulk only, has a cost of under 50 cents per roll when used as one shot, and will do more as a replenished system.
C-41 chemistry is historically cheaper then E-6, mostly because of the historical demand and market share, though the price difference used to be fairly small or un-noticeable, once pro photographers stopped shooting film (most shot E-6) that marker shrank much faster then the less pro oriented market of C-41 negatives, causing a larger price discrepancy.
