Been wanting to add a wider than 35mm for my Canon P. anyone have experience with this lens, good or bad? Also in reading up on it I came across a review that said it was not rangefinder coupled, does this mean I will have to estimate distance to set focus on lens? The focus issue will not be a game changer, bow hunted years and worked construction so guess-to-mating not a problem, just curious.

The Snapshot is not RF coupled, so you'll have to estimate or zone focus. The newer version has the same optics but is RF coupled.

I have and use one. The lens is so short and depth of field so great that estimating distance is really not a problem. The lens gives very good results. Called a snapshot lens precisely because focusing is not critical. Get one and enjoy.

I had M-mount one which is with exactly the same optics, but with RF cam (I need RF on minimal focus distances). I liked rendering, but it was too wide for me.
First VF version, if I'm not mistaken, was without brightlines. I had second version of plastic VF with brightlines. It was taking extra time to eyeball entire frame to get it composed properly.

Sweet pic!

I have both the Snapshot and regular versions. Excellent glass. The Snaphot may not be rf coupled but it has detents at (IIRC) 1, 3 and 5 meters for rapid focusing.

I believe the focus detents are at 1, 1.5, and 3 meters. I guess there's the two ends of the focus throw at the closest focus and infinity, but those are just focus stops and not detents per se. I have one with an early version viewfinder, without the brightlines.

Thanks everyone for the help. Due to Harvey I missed the bidding on the lens. Been hectic here on the Texas coast, now we are only dealing with lots of rain. And no clear picture on just how long this will last.

Wishing to stay safe and dry. You'll get another one, no worries. If not, check on Canon 28 LTM lenses. Those are also wide after 35mm and native for Canon P. Winogrand used them for years.

I have the lens and love it - have it on my Canon P right now. This pic, taken from an old railroad trestle - the river is actually about 75 feet below.

Same here with 2 Canon Ps, so for my widest is the 35mm f3.5 which I like. Did order a Russian INDUSTAR-69, 2,8/28 but it want be here till late September. Like the RR photo, I am drawn to tracks myself.

No, it is not going to work. It is half-frame lens. This is why they are dirt cheap.

Canon 28mm LTM 2.8 or 3.5 are native for P body.

Crude, I read up on the lens but did not find or missed that fact. Glad it was cheap will try it on my Olympus D. The Canon 28mm is just to high priced for me.

Thanks

Have been trying to send you a PM, does not seem to be working. Have had a few internet outages, if you would let me now if you received it.
