The Vivitar Fixed Mount 100-200mm f/4 is one of my favorites. I have it in a number of mounts. I use it mostly without the dedicated 2X teleconverter. The earlier examples are marked Close Focusing and the later examples, if I am reading the serial numbers correctly, are marked Macro Focusing. The later ones have slightly different cosmetics for the zoom and distance markings. Otherwise, they look the same. I know that several companies made purpose built macro lenses in the 180-200mm range but most regular 200mm lenses from this period did not focus down to 1:3 at three feet. I have three examples of the Vivitar Series 1 200mm f/3. They focus down to four feet. I plan to try some of my 58mm size two-element close-up lenses to get closer than 1:3. Has anyone tried that with the 100-200?
