Visiting Philadelphia for holidays

I'll be in the Philly area for Christmas and was wondering if there are any photo exhibits at that time (between Christmas & New Year)

The Philadelphia Museum of Art virtually always has some sort of photo exhibit up; their website shows one featuring the works of Arnold Newman up from last September into this coming March. I admit to not keeping up very well with what's going on downtown, but there are probably some others, perhaps in commercial galleries.

Edit: Also at the Constitution Center -- "In honor of the fifth anniversary of 9/11, this powerful exhibition features original photographs by Jonathan Hyman, documenting the way the American people responded to and remember the tragic attacks. "

(Not exactly Christmas cheer.)

Hi,

Aside from Philadelphia Museum of Art, you should stop by Dead Link Removed to see Donald Camp's show. Gallery 339 is the only commercial photography gallery in Philadelphia.

Siano Gallery in Old City is hosting 2nd Annual Abstract Photography Exhibition.

If you go West Philadelphia, there is a place called Photo West Gallery. I think there is a small show there going on right now.

Philadelphia is not that active city in terms of photography for its size, but there are small places like these to see some images.

If you need the darkroom facility while you are staying in Philadelphia, stop by our studio!

my sister used to live in Germantown. I can't wait to visit. I love going to the small store-front galleries as well as the Philly Art Museum. Thank you for the darkroom info, but I'm not sure we will have time for that. I may be able to stop by, though. I love Philly! It's like Toronto with a tour guide! (my sister) There's sooo much to do and see.

Hi Dorothy,

Yes there is a lot to see in Philadelphia. I just wish there is a lot more to do in terms of photography though.

We are located on Germantown Ave, but not in Germantown. Germantown Ave comes south to Northern Liberties, which is just north of Old City.

There is one workshop perticipant whose cab drive took her to Germantown. It took two hours to get to our studio from Front and Market St. which is only a mile away...

If you want to stop by, you are more than welcome. I will be printing away over the weekend. Regardless, hope you will enjoy your stay in Philadelphia.

Thanks everyone, I managed to get to one gallery. Gallery339. It was fabulous. The rest of my time was split between two sisters and my father - the usual family holiday - each wanting to do something different.

I did manage to pick up a really great book called "Imprint" by Yuichi Hibi. A wonderful book.

I will keep this list of galleries for my next visit. Hopefully there will be more time for photography and such. And I hope I can visit your gallery next time, Tsuyoshi.
